Yes, just try and grind as much of the galvvy away from the weld point as you possibly can. Position the weld area as close to a door as possible and put fan on high. Weld a little and clear smoke repeat as necessary. Wear a mask if at all possible. If not even a bandana is better than nothing. If you get poisoned it is about as sick as you can be and want to live.
MIG and 7018 rod both do not like galv. 6011 is best bet.

Too much "wind" will reduce the effectiveness of the shield gas.

I'm going to make an engine/xmsn stand for buildup. I may even get a little carried away and use it for a cam break in stand since I have some guages laying around too. The pieces are of my old carport. Probably 1 3/4 to 2" galvanized square tubing. I have about 120 linear feet. Not real heavy but square tube is pretty tough.

I know how to grind off galv coating!

Suprised the insurance company didn't make you buy it back LOL. Probably did one way or another.

SLO, what did you do as a Jarhead?
Was from the South so literally grew up shooting. Do you remember way back in boot when you go to rifle range? I outshot the entire series plus our DI. I was tied with another guy when we went to 500 meter line. We plopped down and my 1st shot was on and pointed but not centered. I started changing dope and the RO was screaming at me to take another shot as is. I was in the zone and never heard him, changed my dope and put next 9 dead center. Was awarded range flag series high shooter blah blah. Then I got sent to a pool where they tried to drown a couple of us. Turns out being from the South I could also swim like a fish. I had a standard open infantry contract. Started as a mortar man but they figured why waste good talent! I am just a plain old everyday grunt. I have the knees and ankles to prove it! Plus a couple of other scars a bit harder to see. All good now I have been to civilian readjustment class!

Thanks SLO and Jeff for taking care of us all those years. My hat is off to the both of you.

On serious note, a lot of times that sq tubing is just .120 thick. You might want to put some gussets in critical corners just to be safe. Speaking of safe..... Don't end up under the car Fred! Like me you work alone a lot. We gotta be smart to not end up on the bottom!

There that put the front end 5 and a half feet off the ground. Now just have to build some kind of braces before I put my skinny *** under there. lol

Did you guys read the "Starting a religious forum" thread that Joey locked. What a hoot.

I know they get a STRESS card nowadays, but they don't go to the range anymore?

I started 0311/0331 and 0351 also, after reenlistment I went tgis route

Too bad you don't have a loader for that tractor on the wall :)
For sure BP But I still got to change the back tires to tractor tires before I put a loader on it.
Was thinking about changing it to something else but not sure what yet.

Some body wanted Joey to start one. Religious Section
I just found the thread and read it all the way thru. I was howling by the end. Like most adults I have had both good and bad experiences in that arena. Tool boxs belong here, soap boxs not so much. Our family is very Scottish and Irish all 4 sides. We were happily married outside under a full moon in a circle of candles, complete with hand binding and a broom jump. A family tradition. Not much else do I have to say in that arena.

Not to be safety police Fred but ensure rear jackstands are stable. They could perhaps not be as stable as you might like. Might start a chain of events!
You bet I will. Not trusting the angle the jack stands for sure. I am pulling the rear end out so not using jack stands.
