I had a problem using oil. See post http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=208596. I started tearing my 318 engine down today. It seems that the bottom of the intake gasket didn't seal. It was torqued to 30lbs and then checked an re-torqued again. There isn't an impression on the gasket lower edge. There was visible oil on the bottom of the gasket and in the cylinders. The intake is aluminum Edelbrock performer. The first gasket was the metal from the kit, I didn't know any better. I put the intake on dry and it seems to line up and the gap looks OK. The 2nd intake gasket was a FelPro 1213. I have two questions.

1st how do I fix this intake leak.

2nd at this point should I change the head gasket since I'm this far along?

Get the Fel Pro with the steel core in between, same part number but ends with a an S

Now what might be going on is the heads or intake have been milled in the past. Get a new intake gasket-again I like Fel Pro Print O Seal with the steel core-if you want intake heat, drill a small hole in the exhaust passover through the gasket

Snug the intake bolts down-about 5 lbs and try to slip a feeler gauge about .010 thick on the top and bottom of the gasket. You can only check the front and back were the water ports are. If the feeler gauge won't go in on the top but slips in towards the bottom, you found the problem....I'm too tried to think how to correct it but in involves milling the head or the intake side

Did you remove the dowel pins from front and rear runners ?

Is it possible you have early 273 heads? I don't remember which way the angle changed, but the intake angle was different.

sounds like the heads or intake have been milled at an incorrect angle. I would pull the intake and measure the intake face angle and the head face angle with a digital angle finder. should be within .2*, if not have a machine shop correct the angle.
