I never knew that they made Christmas King Cakes. But had a line with a ton of people waiting in line.
Normally just a MardiGras thing.
But one of the best places in town made up some with Red and Green sugar instead of MardiGras colors.
So Christmas King Cake.

What pastry would be comparable to this king cake that the rest of the country may already know about? Personally, never heard of the king cake.

Giant Cinnabon with a fluffy cream cheese icing. But better.
Note) New Orleans east has a very large amount of Vietnamese population. Keep in mind the French ruled them for many years. They are Vietnamese owned bakeries that make French patires , in cakes , and breads like a fine French Pastery chef would.
Their sandwiches are to die for as well. And traditional Vietnamese foods if ya never had any are too.
This bakery started say 1980ish (one of the best)
Dong Phuong is making Christmas king cakes. Here’s where to get them around New Orleans.

We just had a Cajun Christmas party the other night and had a Christmas King Cake that had a baby.
I really miss my Coonass friends down there but have made several new friends in Oklahoma who are from Southern LA.
On a side note: Best pastries in New Orleans belongs to Brocato’s. Prove me wrong!
