I found a bulge hood this summer that has some damage. It needs an inner structure. So I bought a pretty good hood with a good frame to do the fix. It has begun. If you haven’t seen the bolting mechanism I took a pic here.

A little bit of work later. I’m gonna see if I can find a place to blast the frame before I assemble it.
To disassemble I ground the skin on the donor and I ground the frame on the bulge. This way I don’t have a bunch of pre set holes. I can make my own. Excluding the front edge. Which was extra welded in one side and not welded down the other! Spots were there but no contact.

Hinge area is paper thin. If someone does not have adequate help to remove, it will certainly crack. I can attest. I love the look of those hoods. Great find.

It’s coming together. Got the frame sandblasted and covered in epoxy. Just like the hood for StuBBle, I have an advantage over the previous owners having the skins removed. Should be able to get them both really straight. I really doubt I can get the paint matched up. That 68 Racing Green Metallic is pretty special. Probably end up flat black. We’ll see.

I should mention the hood pins will be staying. Dave, aka qkcuda, sent me two sets of pins and didn’t want more than the shipping cost! Awesome man. I wasn’t sure if I was gonna fill the holes or not, but I’m keeping them now. I will have to move one a little bit if not both of them. They are slightly different.

I took a break from the hood and addressed an issue I found last summer. It was ultra hot out, but it started running a bit warm. These 22” shrouds are apparently made of unibtanium in notavailableistan. So I modified one I had here. I made it split at the bottom so it can be easily installed and removed.

It was so nice today I had to do spring yard work. But I took some time to clean up the damaged corner. They had filled it with brass in the past when they hit the barb wire fence. With the scratched through the hood I have determined that is what happened. Anyway, I cut out the corner and built a little patch.

Time to fill the holes and move them where they belong. I use the brass hammer head underneath to position and absorb heat. I’m going from where the white hood is to where the green hood is. My old frame shows where they currently are and where they will be.

When your discs get dull and slow they heat up more. I take them to the bench grinder and size them down with corners added.

Great work, George.
I'm gonna have to come over and scrutinize it sometime soon!

lol, thanks Tom. Yes, you have not interlooped for a while. It's almost been nice enough to bring the Dart over.

I will come over hopefully this weekend, you are doing some good work there.
I've never skinned a hood before, it would be nice to see how you did it...

Me too! I called Ken to see what he would use for glue. I told him I used sealer in roof skins. He pretty much agreed.

Perfect. I know I have used it on roof skins for the contact. That's why I thought it will work here. I just always figured the factory stuff had a little more of a "foam" type context to it. Kinda spongy.

Gotta resurect these hard to find ones. Sometimes you even gotta go to the hood to find what your after.......
