Can someone help me with the benefits that you get with going to a motor-plate on the front of a engine,Also if you put it in front do you need a mid-plate too or can you use the front motor-plate and the trany mount,Second can you arrive at the same benefit by using sold motor-mounts on the k-frame--Steve

I,ve been running solid engine mounts, stock trans mount for 4 yrs now on my stroked SB.If I were running into the 9,s I would change to engine/mid plate.

Solid mounts or a motor plate with a stock tranny mount is the way to go if the car is street driven. With a midplate, the flexing of the frame over bumpy roads, curves and uneven surfaces will crack the bell of the transmission.

Talking straight track car here Guy's--Thanks -Steve

My 66 Dart is strictly track with well over 500 passes with the solid mounts and stock trans mount. No dyno, but figure running 525-550hp sb in the 10,s.What times are you planning on running? As I said, anything under 10.0 use a plate front and mid.JMO

a friend of my ex partner, had a duster that ran 9.60`s w/ the carb. backed of a little to slow it down and be a little more dependable. he ran a motor plate and a stock trans mount, wheels up every pass, no problems !--just sayin-bob

I also run with solid motor mounts, and a poly trans mount....been this way for at least 12 years, maybe more (I don't remember)....no issues other that the occasional backing out of the header and starter bolts. I usually check those bolts once a year before the race season and its good to go.

I made a motor plate with a couple 1" poly bushings for my big block.
the motor plate is nice with the big block and external oil pump pick up line.
it gives you some extra room. I think it makes pulling the motor a little easier too.

For whatever it may be worth, I ran my old '69 340 Swinger on the streets of SoCal over thirty years ago with solid motor mounts and a stock trans mount. Never any issues and never any excessive vibrations since the engine was well balanced during it's build.
When I took the car off the street to build into a dedicated race car, I set it up with both a front motor plate and a mid-plate - mostly for ease of maintenance. With both plates I could pull the motor and leave the tranny in the car, or pull the tranny and leave the motor in place.

69 Barracuda has motor plate and solid trans mount...been that way since 1988....

do the math....
