Hey everyone, I've been a member of this fabulous site for a little while now and have enjoyed every minute of it. I was asked by another fabo member to start a build thread about the car and figured its probably about time to do it. I have owned several mopars over the years but this one has received the most attention as far as building it from the ground up basically the way I want. I have owned this car for approximately 4 years now. Dad bought the car out of california as a basically all original low mileage swinger with the intentions of reselling it. When he got it home I had to have it! It was just recently painted a nice teal blue color and had a brand new black vinyl top. Had only 58k original miles, slant 6 automatic with a black bench seat interior. It became my daily driver. I drove the car for almost a year when some jackass decided to make a left hand turn right in front of me and totaled it. I was so pissed off. I hit the box truck almost dead center of the dually wheels at about 40 mph. Peeled the hood back all the way to the windshield and destroyed the front end. It had a PERFECT! grill and we'll the whole front end was perfect for that matter! So in the process I ended up breaking my left knee when I impailed it on the emergency brake handle put a knee size dent in the dash next to the ash tray. I was a hurttin unit for a few weeks after that mess lol. Thankfully the truck I hit was insured and I ended up getting a nice settlement from their insurance company. That's when the build it the way I want it started. A few months after the crash I began the disassembly and body work. Here are some pictures I took right after the crash.

Sorry about the side ways picture, don't hurt your neck just turn your monitor lol. So here are a few more pics of it in process of being repaired and painted. The hood smashed the cowl in about 3 inches when the corner was shoved into it.

Looking good! 8)

Did it need any frame work after the accident? Or was it pretty much just cosmetic damage?

Yes. I did have to take it to a guy and have it pulled up and over on the passenger side because the impact basically laid the passenger side fender well down and out a little ways. It wasnt a whole bunch of pulling but I wanted to make sure the car drove right again. Thanks for the compliment!
omg. wow. nice work!!
Thank you very much!

Here are some pictures of the 440. Believe it or not I picked up this 440 long block for $200. How you might ask? A friend of mine who at the time played ball for the cardinals had bought a 70 challenger with the intentions of installing a 6.1 in it and this motor was just resting in the engine compartment. It was taped up but covered in dust and dirt and didnt look like anything special. I offered to buy it from him and we agreed on $200. I had no idea what I was getting but I wanted it for my swinger anyway. About six months later I put the engine on a stand and began tearing it down to see what needed to be done. To my surprise everything inside was brand new, never been fired. I was in shock! When it was assembled they had used that nasty white grease for the assembly lube and it basically just turned into glue it had been in there for so long. So I pulled the pan, heads and camshaft and cleaned everything. The cam is an old howards piece and the numbers checked out to be .509 lift and .232 duration which would work perfect for what I needed. I then reassembled it and painted it to match the car. Here are some pics.

$200 for 440 long block! That is a hell of a barn find.

Keep up the great work and update us as the build progresses.

Here are some pictures of the hood in process as well as the rear bumper. The hood skin is from an 09 challenger and the tail lights came from a 70 road runner. These are the only pictures I have of these in process unfortunately.

I love that paint combo

Thank you. It took me about a week to figure out what color I wanted to paint it. I found my dads streamlight flash light that was a cool looking burgandy color and that's what started the paint scheme.

Can't wait to see that thing driving around the Valley - Just beautiful.

How many hours were spend doing that bodywork? Holy Cow! Beautiful car. :thumleft:

Honestly I can't tell you how many hours, many many long weekends and nights trying to make her perfect. My dad might be able to say how many hours though! Lol He played a major roll in the body work turning out as nice as it did. Thanks dad! And thanks for the compliment!
