I have narrowed hydraulic flat cam choices to one of the three below. It is going in a 1970 340 Block with X heads, 904 Transmission, RPM Air Gap Intake, 750 or 800 CFM Carb, 1500-2000 Stall Converter, Stock Stroke (ground 30), 3.55 or 3.91 gears.

I want a hot street cam, that I will take to the strip a few times a year. Still want a decent idle, nothing horrible choppy.

Cam #1: 223/234 @ .050. .480/.494 Lift. LSA: 112 RPM: 2000-4800. Crower Ultra Beast.

Cam #2: 224/230 @ .050. .477/.480 Life. LSA 110 RPM: 1600-5800. Comp XE268H

Cam #3 238/238 @ .050. .474/474. Lift. LSA 110 RPM: 2000-6000.

For kicks my engine builder was recommending:
248/248 @ 050. .508/.508 Lift. LSA:108. Seems a little much to me

they are all nice cams for your build jmo i would look for an ld340 intake i think it might suit you better again jmo . good luck with your build

My cam is:
@.050
231/239
.535"/.550"
2400-6200 rpm
Requires 2500 stall and 3.42 or better gear.
That said my setup is full roller.

I recommended the Crower grind.if you look to the right of 4800 rpm,you will see a 6200 rpm listed. All three grinds will do the job.The mopar will have an aggressive chop, compared to the others.

I like the Mopar cam if you're runnin headers. Generally, split patterns are for manifolds or poor flowing heads on the exhaust side. With headers, they usually run better with a single pattern cam. The Mopar cams were designed for stock heads. They work very well even tody.

The crower, aren't they USA all the way? Used to be, IDK..... If that's you thre choices. The MOPAR cam is a tad too much for your converter, if you don't want a bit of hesitation. The COMP cam is groound from blanks from CHiiiiNA!

The Crower will also be the best street cam, so to speak.

Yippeeee.........

Crower is still out of Chua Vista, baby. Yes, it will tune in with a 2k converter.

I run the XE268h in my 360 Dart. The car runs very well.
Going to run even better with a fresh 904/TF-2 shift kit and Continental stall.
I have never had a problem with a Comp Cam.

As far as China blanks ?
I wouldn't be surprised. I also wouldn't be surprised if other top cam companies are doing the same. Everybody's trying to make money. With the proper heat treating, and proper break in,there shouldnt be a problem.

I hope he was kidding!
You would love the thumpr cam in this application. Or have the XE268 cam cut on a 107lca and stick it in 5°.

I have loved cam 3 for 30+ years. A little more converter would help, but that was always my go to cam.
Yes i'm old:D

i like the crower.its very similar to the crane im currently running,it should also idle well.

This is my engine builders go to grind. The cool part,it will roll through too Cali1.0 co/100 ppm, if you know what you are doing

If those are the choices I'd go in this order:
#2 - overall best choice given the info.
#1 - Will prob be choppy depending on the static compression but otherwise a good choice.
#3 - MUST be degreed, and sacrifices some street power.
Builder's cam - MUST be degreed, sacrifices some street power, choppy idle.

I have the Mopar Performance cam (Choice #3)...sounds healthy, rough & tough and my wife can drive the car. It idles around 900 RPM in gear.

I have a 1970 340 engine and 727 transmission in my 1972 Duster. The previous owner built the engine, but I have changed some things to suit my purpose.

Some of my specs are...
- 670 Holley Street Avenger
- Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
- Heddman Headers and a Summit Racing 2.5" Exhaust System
- 3000 RPM Turbo Action Convertor & Cheetah Valve Body
- 3.91 Rear Gears

I would reccomend 2 cups of coffee and 3 Advil....you're going to need it with this post :toothy8:.

Seriously though, I would go with #2, the comp cam. Sounds like the best for your application.

That's a beautiful little motor you got.

I have the comp cam in my old motor and the cam card I got with it calls for a 3000 stall converter . I would defer to Brian's advice when it comes to cams he knows what works .

I would agree with following Brians (ou812) advice. Also, why just a 1500-2000 converter? The factory 340 converter stalls more than that.

If your gonna run a "268" cam...which would be a good choice. I'd run the Lunati Voodoo 60403 grind...do some research and you'll find that the Lunati Voodoo grinds are very well thought out cams...Comp are good too but I'd go with the Lunati over the other 3 choices if I had to choose.
