my first engine rebuild (318) advises

-
got good news from machinist.

holes are one 0,001mm TIGHT of 0,02 overbore 3,930, so light honing and those are fine.

out of round was non notable.

machinist wants to measure new pistons before honing, so that sounds good and precise.

i need new valves, old ones are... well i don't remember english word, something like crushed. :)

crand was spot on 0.01 undersize and in good shape.

I ordered parts, pistons kb167 w moly rings
voodoo 701 cam, pushrods springs, retainers tools to machine quides etc.
new rods, old ones weigh over 800 grams, heavy.
new bearings, king bearings, same mark that i had in engine.
oil and water pumps, gaskets and all rest little pieces for engine.

I plan to tune my carb next year after rebuild with wideband o2 sensor, no more guessing:)

I already have HEI ignition witch works really well.

Since you went with the voodoo cam, which is a little bigger than Lunati recommended, I recommend you use Rhoades variable duration lifters. They bleed down at lower rpm's and pump up to full lift and duration by 3500 rpm. It's like having your cake and eating it too. They tame down a bigger cam at lower rpm. Here's a link to their site:

Here's the part number page, I recommend the standard variable duration lifters part # 2018. I have used them for over 25 years now and run them over 250,000 miles without problems. They also help the engine idle smoother and better vacuum.

Your build is coming along very nicely. Keep up the good work and keep asking questions.

Well

I finally got all parts.

nothing missing and everthing looks like its in good shape.
Went and took rods, pistons etc to machinist to balance engine and hone piston bores.

Machinist is going to number rods and pistons so he can mach cyliders to pistons, and he says its better for balance.

He also says crank is so good shape that there is no need for honing journals.

Machinist will also check all surfaces and heads.

Meanwhile I started wiring new gauges, RPM, oil pressure and wideband.
I also opened up new oil pump and pre lubed it.
Now i have to wait till i get engine parts back from machinist.

Least sun is up. haven't seen that thing since last year :)
