Pictures of my oil passage modifications/porting

First pic is looking from the oil filter boss area. Second pic is looking from the core plug into the same large oil filter port in the first picture, just from other direction.

This road race #31590 is a totally diffrent pan then the #30940 8" sump drag pan you have.

So others please do not assume you will have to notch a 64-66 A-body K-member for this Milodon #315590 7" deep road race/street/pro-touring pan like pettybludart did with his 8.75" deep drag pan.

The road race pan has not been tested in a 64-66 K-member yet. It might need nothing or it might need a notch.

Milodon pan to TTI header clearance pics. TTI Part # TTI340A-C0 to C5 (coating options)

Fits with about 3/16" clearance without pan gaskets, without cylinder head gasket, and without header gaskets. That was about double the clearance from the header tube to the rear pan area.

When you add up all the gasket thicknesses it should have the same clearance that the TTI headers have to the rear part of any stock based pan (see 4th pic). Milodon advised to header wrap the area in the rear for any pan. Now for this road race pan, just extend that wrap to the bend of the tube.

Passenger side has no issues.

I just got my oil pan today and the damn thing is a work of art! I think it should be in an art museum! The only thing I wish came it the pan is a plug for the oil temp sensor. But where can I get an oil temp sensor at anyway?

Summit or circle track supply places.

Pan will be on display at Fall Fling tommorrow at the Glendora Dodge booth or at my 68 Barracuda (if I can tie it down to it.)

I wonder if it will clear a set of Hooker Super Comps? Looks pretty tight on the TTI's. Beautiful pan. Not sure I can justify it though for a non-racing application. If I were road racing it would be on there in a heartbeat though.

I sort of doubt it because those go under/before the steering linkage I think. With those Hooker headers the gound clearance it reduced. At that point you might as well run a deeper pan as the headers are going to scrape. But you won't get the oil control.

AutoX, what kind of cam are you running in your motor and which HV oil pump are you using?

Just a melling HV. I think there's only one or two places left that makes them. Different brands just stick them in their boxes. Would be nice if someone stepped up for a aftermarket SB pump with 1/2 inlet.

Cam? I don't know. I really want something maintence free, can take abuse, and not be a noise thumper. Thinking about a XE274. But people will say that's a weak cam for a 416. And others push for the max HP your heads can take rather than all the things you use the car for. ??

I gotta pick a cam. We're getting past mock up and ready for short block assembly.

The Milodon road race pan showed up the other day so we've been working on getting it installed. The pan looks great and I'm sure it will solve the oiling issues we've been having with Tim's car. We haven't figured out how to get the motor into the car with the pan installed on it though. It doesn't drop into place in the usual way so we'll need to figure out another way to do it.

It fits.

If you are using the 73-76 Spool K-member you need to put the engine in straight down and not have the transmission connected. If it's a manual trans with the front splines sticking out, you need to put the motor in first, then the trans in from the bottom.

AndyF wanted to take the motor in and out together. Frequently. That motor is being written up in a Mopar Muscle series and he is writing a book on Mopar Handling. AndyF also makes lot of neat products for his company, AREngineering, which he test fits on motors and such. I bet he has installed and removed test motors in his 65 Coronet in the past 3 years MORE times than he's driven the car. His situation is sort of unique.

If you have an E/B body or a 67-72 A-body k-member this is not an issue.
 
i'm well aware of who andy f is. but his resume really doesn't matter when it comes to a milodon oil pan fitment.

looking at the pics the first thing i thought was the thing has to come straight down as you stated. but i figured before posting on a busy board like moparts , scaring off god knows how many potential customers for that pan that he would have atleast tried to fit it in without the trans and dropping it straight down . i mean seriously how hard is it to pull the trans and bell off that thing?

Wasn't trying to brag his resume, but he just has some unique requirements that don't fit the average buyer. Others reading this post might not know about.

It's a tight fit. But it does fit. It would have been easier to not make those pan notches and exclude 73-76 A-body K-member users from ever using it. Even easier to just use the E/B body sump from his big block pan and it would not have fit A-bodies all together. But we took the time to fit it to the hardest application and work backward.
 
it should fit my car with no problems and i plan on using one on my 408 if i ever build the damn thing. but talking to a couple people that are looking into new pans andy's thread already scared them away from the pan which is why i asked in the first place. i'd like to see it on an actual car and hear what it took to put it in. maybe that would make them consider it again.

Damn, Damn, Damn!!!!!!! Another $600 for a GOT to have part for my money pit. Very nice piece. Cudos to both Steves for the effort it takes to develop/produce a much needed item.
 
The pan sure looks like it should do the job. We're going to change over to a '72 style K-frame so we'll have the room for it. That sets in motion a bunch of other changes so it is going to be a few months until the car is back on the track.
 
Where can I find an Oil temperture sensor that fits this oil pan?
