New Trickflow 295 heads

-
When TF stuck their toe in the Mopar pond with the 240 BB heads…….if the sales numbers of those were along the lines of B1 heads, you can rest assured there wouldn’t be any 270’s, and now 295’s.

They understand what the market wants………
High quality, ready to bolt on heads, that provide a high level of performance without the need for a bunch of specialized parts.
No offset rockers, no special headers, no special pistons.
Bring on the Easy peasy 800+hp combo’s.

If you’re looking for a higher level of performance than that……those heads still exist(B1, 572-13).
Just open your wallet and order them up.

That's the thing I like about this stuff.

I get it.

It’s a mopar guy thing. That’s why we get scrapings from the bottom of the barrel.

For the bigger cube, over 1000hp crowd…….there’s heads for them too.
Predator and 600-13’s.
The more exotic they get, the lower the sales volume is.

The Chevy guys have the benefit of being able to build a 1000+hp engine with everything available from the Summit catalog, and have it be no more exotic than a roller cammed 454…….just bigger.

That same theme is what I see these TF295’s targeting for the BBM crowd, but at about a 150-200hp less threshold.

I am glad to at least see another head available for the Mopar crowd. However, I can't see building any high performance/ race engine without a head that utilizes an offset rocker.

Also, as others have already mentioned you need a good aftermarket block if you intend to get 800 HP

I'll just have to stick with my worked over 452 heads with epoxied short side walls and .485" offset rockers.

What can a factory 400 B block handle if 1/2 hardblocked and stud girdle?

The new 9 degree Brodix head for a BBC is unbelievable and the Darrin Morgan DM500 head for a BBC is also amazing.

However, in my opinion once you get past OEM parts with an aftermarket block and heads it's no longer a Mopar, Chevy, or Ford.

It's an aftermarket engine at that point.

Tom

Andys 400 was without both at 780hp I believe.
I don't know how it handled that internally but maybe he'd share. @AndyF
I had two stock block 470 dyno engines. One of them went over 100 pulls on the dyno and the screen in the oil filter was clean every pull. I sold that engine to a racer and I've never heard what happened to it.
The other 470 made a bunch of pulls then lost a little power at the end. The screen was clean but when I pulled the pan I saw that one of the rod bearings was starting to go. We pulled it apart and ground the rod journals and then sold the short block as a kit. The 270 heads went to a friend of mine. The main caps in the 400 blocks walk a bit at 750+ hp but neither of these blocks cracked and i had a ton of dyno pulls on them. They won't last forever, but they'll probably last a couple of seasons of racing.

Thanks Andy. My 470 was showing cap walk at 685 so I drilled the caps and installed some pins in an effort to keep atleast the 3 inner caps in place, I think it should help the outer 2 also.

Jim Laroy also did one without all that stuff and almost hit 800HP. Whether it was just a dyno mule or actually went into something, I don't know. But it hit the number.
I recall the 451 was detuned and put in his shop truck.

There's nothing to mount the side bolts to, except the side of the block & that's thin, plus you have to remove metal to make them fit.
I wish I had pictures of what I did with my main caps. It takes about 5 minutes per cap to get them wiggled off.
Well I know all that. That didn't answer my question. It will certainly add some strength. I guess the question becomes is it worth the extra money and trouble?

I doubt it, the weak spot just gets moved somewhere else & I don't think it adds any strength at all.

And this was with 906 heads ?
Yes. They'd have breached 800, but this was the engine the Comp guys forgot to turn the water on and over heated it. They got a "do over" but couldn't really repair anything. Jim said one cylinder had 56% leakdown. It still got deep in the 700s for HP.

You ever see these heads ?
Even better is there a build thread?
Be interesting to see how many cc's he was able to get out of those runners.

Al that was proprietary since it was in the Engine Masters contest.
