Nicks Garage, 572 HEMI, Here we go....

-
I've stopped watchin any of his nonsense at this point. I think the writers and producers have had a hand in his "dumbing down".

I quit watching a long while back , when he " tried" to tear a hemi down !!

Did anyone notice the center valve cover bolt on the drivers side ?
It was literally bouncing around and about to fall out !
Watch it when the camera is looking straight down,,,,it’s hilarious !

Tommy

What i would like to know is how the cylinder got cracked .
Same here, very easy to catch on the dyno if you check the oil and/or detect massive blowby like a steam engine. I would've thought he would want to show something like that or even after the block had 8 sleeves installed. J.Rob

I was shocked that he let those new TTI headers glow like that! I was always taught that when the headers glow the timing is quite retarded.
You were taught correct, unless You're seeing obvious signs of excess fuel burning/smoking/popping in the exhaust, the timing is way behind. I never cease to be amazed at 'Pros' who can't figure out how to get that right before even hooking the f'n battery up, unbelievable.......

6mins in and i feel so bad for that motor.... is the camera picking up all the clunking and noise but he can't hear it in person? that thing sounds terminal from the start... at least stick a scope down the plug holes....

"let's go the 6500 and finish it there" "woah, look at that" -Dr. Nick

They were chasing a number on an obviously hurt engine. I've said it before, watching Nick diagnosis an engine is like watching my dog trying to figure out the remote control to our TV.

Why the hell does he just keep reving it.... This is like the hillbillies in my old neighborhood would do to "Fix" things.... This isn't diagnosis it's torture.. kinda breaks my heart i will never be able to have a hemi and he destroys them for clicks.

I stopped watching Nick awhile back, but I just had to see how he was going to murder this Hemi, I wasn't disappointed. what the hell Nick.

That had to be intentional.... Also look in the comments.. people praise him and call him the hemi doctor... yeah.. ******* Dr Mangele.... That was a semi easy fix that turned into 20k of damage.....

the thing i don't get is "It's the PCV".... that oil drains backs would have to be plugged and the valve cover full of oil to be that much... i'm really angry about that video :)

Yeah, i stopped watching bout 2 years ago.. he went on a rant about how bad new cars are and all this old man yelling at clouds ****... People seem to forget that 100k miles was AMAZING in old cars with great maintenance, now it's expected without any issues, none of my newer cars have ever let me down (obviously people have had issues though)

his main complaint was that you can't push a new car to the side of the road....

They always narrate his videos with something like "Nick has over 20 years of dyno experience....", as if somehow none of the engine failures could ever be his fault. lol

"We have to figure out why this happened" Well.... a idiot saw a hurt motor and decided to put it under load and spin it to 6500.....

Betting the whole issue was a tight ring gap that popped a land on that piston

Could well have been.

Yeah. You'd think he would have done a leakdown/compression test before pushing it like that. Like all of us have done, he just missed it... and it cost.

thing is.. he didn't miss all the smoke... either his mind is gone or it's intentional... If anyone here still doesn't own a $25 bore scope... it's one of my best tool buys ever. I would have taken a look in those cyls first thing

Usually you can catch this type of thing well before it goes catastrophic. There are always signs. Valvetrain is where noises can indicate rocker to retainer contact or retainer to guide issues both of which can lead to a dropped valve. Either way it doesn't look good on anybody. Looked to have decent parts, inspecting the surviving components will likely reveal the root cause, but for a forged piston to turn to rubble like that means this was happening for some time. That didn't happen in the last 300rpm. J.Rob
