No mas dumb phone.....

The Boss has been needing a new phone....for a few years now....Ernie has been thinking about a Smart Phone. There is a Verizon dealer next to our vet, after we got the meds for our one poop shooter we went in. My suggestion was to turn off my dumb phone, I average about 10 minutes a month on it and just get a smart phone. We hardly ever go to town alone so it is not like we need a second phone. Well that did not happen. I walked out with a Samsung Galaxy S4 and she walked out with a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.....Have been told by a few folks, including a neighbor who uses one, that with a good cell amplifier we will get service in our house. The one my neighbor has just so happens to be the same one that a few of the local retailers suggested...

my experience with reception is get high in the house away from equipment you should be ok

I simply called my provider ( AT&T ) and told them that I have terrible reception at my home , and then said my friend with another carrier has fine reception. Maybe I should switch carriers. I was sent a cell amplifier free of charge.

That's a good phone you got Doug, I have the same one.

I would call your provider and see if they will provide you with a signal amp, I have Sprint, and they sent me one and I get full bars, I also have my phone programmed so it automatically connects to my modem when in range. It doesn't help with calls, but I can sit in my chair in the living room and browse the forum if I'm feelin lazy.


On a side note, the signal amp does hook to my modem. What are you going to do for internet? Just keep that, on the land line?

I have the same phone thru Boost Mobile. Unlimited talk, text, and net. Forty bucks a month no contract. Their owned by Sprint which is the same service for a lot more money. Figure that one out?

I have a Sprint plan that is completely unlimited, talk cell to cell OR cell to land line, text, data, my phone is also a "hotspot" so I can go anywhere and use my laptop without logging into a public network.

24/7 unlimited everything.
Wifi connected also if I want to use it.

I think 'hot spot' means your phone is a modem. Meaning others can connect to the internet through your phone. May eat up your bandwidth on the data plan. I have AT&T, if I connect to the internet through my wireless internet carrier, (Road Runner in my case) I don't use any data from my monthly allowance. Others may be different.

all the newer phones can be set up as a hot spot , I bet sprint does it for the same reason Telus does it here , if they don't someone else will , I have Koodo which is owned by Telus but no contract , monthly plan , I don't use Data at all so I have a plan thats 30 bucks a month and the big one is they have what they call the Tab where 10% of your bill is kcked back to an account to either pay for the phone you got or to save up to buy a new one , I've been with them for 5 years and only paid for the first phone I got with them , since then I upgrade for free every couple of years .

My plan is talk, text, and data. Unlimited forty bucks. A month. While I have no monthly contract when I signed on they had a program that if you stayed with them and payed on time every month then your bill would shrink to thirty five dollars after a year. In October I will go from the original fifty to thirty five.

Yes, that's what it does. I can park at a plant out in the middle of nowhere Iowa and sit back and log on here with my laptop.

I love it.

The only way others can use my phone as a modem, is if I let them, I have it password protected.

Ernie is going to call Verizon tomorrow. Not counting on them being much help. When we were getting the phones the guy that mentioned the amp made sure to mention the price of it....and that they do not carry them just yet. I have both of the phones set up to get on our wi-fi network.

We have an unlimited text/talk with 2 gigs of data each plan. If either one of us runs over 2 gigs it is $15 per gig....whatever we do not use of the gig that we paid for will be "banked" for the next time that line runs over. We are going to get our land line turned off but keep the dsl service. The DSL is only like twenty bucks a month.

The amp that the retailer suggested is for the cells only. I went and talked to the retailer that I will be getting it from today. Was told that they guarantee it will work and work well. If not, they will issue me a full refund. Unit we will be getting will be strong enough to give us cell service in our entire home....and if we want to down the road we can get a splitter and include the garage.

Debating whether or not I should look into a different brand of amp as this one is a bit pricey....

I called Verizon and told them that I was having reception problems at my house. They told me that there was no guarantee of reception in your house and that they would send somebody out to measure the signal strength outside my house. 2 weeks and I hadn't heard anything so I called them back. The operator told me but they had measured the signal strength outside my house and it was indeed low and that for two hundred and fifty dollars dollars they would sell me an amplifier that would give me 3G cell phone service in my home home. I told them that I had a problem with paying extra money to make the phones that I hey I just paid $600 work. long story short after going back and forth they sent me the amplifier for free. stick to your guns and you will do the same for you.

Same here. I could get service from Sprint if I went out on the deck, but not in my office by the computer. They sent me a unit that works through my internet and calls are never dropped now.

Landlines are for dinosaurs, bill collectors and politicians running for office. I got no time for any of them.

They are pretty much the only ones that call our land line....and my pain in the a** neighbors worried that I NEED to talk to someone when the wife is down in AZ visiting her daughter...But the statue of limitations is running out on things next year so.....

Spoke with Verizon....was told they needed to come out to our 'hood to check on our cell service. Next day got a call and was told we do not have any cell service.....don't think there rep found me laughing very suitable. Told him we have DSL....but it is VERY slow. Network Extender will not work....need a signal booster. Once I get my SSD check this week will be heading to Spokane Wireless to pick one up.....

We had 14 days to trade in our new phones on a different one. Wife went with an S5...really likes the keyboard as it is more user friendly thanks to it being more visible...after messing around with hers for a while I went back and got the same phone...getting a headache trying to figure it out.....
