I have a sure grip 8 1/4 rear that I want to put on my 65 Dart, but I am not ready to switch to LBP yet because I have a nice set of rallies with new rubber and I don't have to funds for new wheels and tires. My question is can I remove the SBP hubs and drums from my 7 1/4 and put them on the 8 1/4? Is this difficult? Am I crazy? Any other issues I may run into?
Thanks
Joel

Sorry realized what I was asking was the wrong question. Is there a way to change an 8 1/4 to SBP? Should I just get the hubs drilled? Is it possible?

even if you drill the axles to small bolt pattern the hub will still be too large a dia. for small bolt wheels.

My 8.25 rear and the complete front disc brake assembly has been piled up here for over 2 years now for the same reason. Until the car needs tires or brake shoes or something...
I wont fix what aint broke.

p.s. LBP rallyes or Magum 500s is another decision I'll face when the time comes.

Yeah it just sucks to have suregrip sitting there all because 1/2 inch. Rim choice is already made for me when the time comes. Pro-stars I love em.

you are kind of locked in to the 4 1/2 with the 8 1/4 unless you use an adapter. you could probably have custom axles made. you could use big bolt rallyes on the rear if you wanted.

IMHO it seems like your best course of action is to keep saving to do the BBP swap all around. Anything you put into cobbling the 8¼ to handle SBP wheels is going to be trashed when you finally do the BBP swap.

I did the BBP swap one end at a time on the 73. I carried two spares which really cut into trunk space. What a PITA! Unless you can find a couple of nice BBP rallyes for the interim period your nice looking ride isn't going to look as nice.

I think you hit the nail on the head thanks for the advice everyone
