Greetings to all. It’s finally time to start on this project! I respectfully ask the following questions to guide me forward. It’s my hope to try to keep the car in original condition as much as possible .

What is the original paint scheme for engine compartment, core support, and underhood ?? Body color?

What is the original paint scheme for underbody? Body exterior color? Chassis black ? Gloss, semi gloss, flat black?

If the underbody is a chassis black color, any suggestions of quality product?

Finally, does anyone have a picture of what might be the correct steering wheel and horn ring ?

While not a rotisserie restoration, it will be on a lift. Lots of work needed on front floors and suspension. Been looking forward to starting on this for many months. It will be much easier with the groups help. Thanks

"What is the original paint scheme for engine compartment, core support, and underhood ?? Body color?"

Body color is correct for all of the above. The front side of the core support is usually painted semi gloss black, unless the car is black. That is so light colored paint doesn't show thru the grill.

The underbody was usually whatever color the dip primer was. Later cars were a dark gray, but I'm not sure if Early A body cars were the same? The factory ran bodies thru a dunk tank full of primer about 1/4 way deep on the body. Insides of wheel wells got undercoated. Some cars got full undercoating if ordered or if they were to be delivered to the rust belt. It won't hurt a thing to take liberties going overboard on the underside. It will take a lot of work to get it clean enough to paint it, but that would protect it better. Some do body color and others do black.

As far as the steering wheel goes, I personally have no idea....lol. There are quite a few people here who own Darts of the Early A (64-66) variety. Maybe @toolmanmike or @65dartcharger will chime in here and know about the steering wheel. Good luck on your project!

Wheel would be a 2 spoke design with or without horn ring, and I believe the run was available either as a full ring or partial just between the spokes on the bottom. That might be for 65 though my 66 has the full ring.

Standard steering wheel in black, tan, turquise, blue and red. Standard Dart line had half horn ring, Dart 270 half ring as standard equipment and full horn ring as optional and Dart GT full horn ring.

Under hood was always body color. K-frame and the front end is pained black. black.

We assume you mean to keep it as close to "stock" as possible. It's original only once. Any changes/restorations (even those done exactly like the factory) and those items aren't original any more. As for under chassis finish....I would just undercoat it. A lot less work, it helps make it a quieter ride, and naturally, it helps protect from rust. Most cars were undercoated, especially in the snow belt. There wasn't a code for it, so, it could be correct and nobody could claim otherwise.

Hood insulation included undercoating.

Also with regards to the front of the radiator support. It is painted first in body color, then blackout paint was sprayed sort of haphazardly, not necessarily everywhere, but depending on the vehicle, in areas that would be visible. Examples being behind grill openings, around headlight buckets, and possibly the bottom that shows under the bumper. You can probably find good picture examples here or the net.

Body colour except front face of rad core support is satin/semi-flat black.

As for the engine and its bolt-ons, see here (plus-minus, depending what engine you have) and here .

Body colour behind underseal.

Build sheet and maybe the fender tag will show whether undercoat just went in the fenderwells or if the whole bottom got it. if you don't see any underneath then it prob just got fenderwells.

I don't know for sure about 66 but 67 got 'suede' on some of the interior.
Check the body section of both the Plymouth and Dodge shop manuals. Most, but not all years will have some info about that.

I've never seen an undercoating code on a fender tag. Do you have a photo of one? n code? I don't recall seeing one on a build sheet either, but, I admit to not looking all that hard for one. I always understood that most of the undercoating jobs were done by the dealer. One of those "add-ons" they liked to sell you, or throw in on the "deal".

Let me find it. It just saw it when looking for other threads about 67 'decode'

Not finding it now - of course.
Might have been post by @Cuda Al
I did find this:
The option number was changed to 579 for the 1966 models. It does show up on the buildsheet under the "57" square. If the space is blank under the "57", then the car was not factory undercoated. If you see "9" under the "57", then it was undercoated. In 66, the option was $.30 less at $15.40.

and this which is an IBM card not a tag.

Greetings to all. A heartfelt thanks and apologies to all who responded. I just got around to reading all responses due to 1) health issues (just received a new complete right shoulder) and 2) somehow I do not get notices on my e mail for replies. There is a bunch of helpful info in those replies. Please accept my apologies. Dave

Greetings: is it possible to e-mail pictures and costs? Please accept my apologies for not responding sooner

Follow the link in post #10. It will take you to a "Library" with factroy liturature. Look at the photos in the various sales brochures from 1966.

If you want to post photos, underneath where you are typing, there is a button that says "attach photos"
Alternatively, if you have a photo open in another software program, right click (assuming you are on a cmputer) Copy, then click on where you typing and "paste"

In the little bar above where you are typing, there are various options. If the screen is too narrow, some are hidden behind the three vertical dots. There is one option that looks like [ ]. That turns the code on and off. You can use that to bette see and seperate what you are typing from someone else you are quoting.

If you want to buy something, start a new thread in the "Wanted" forum.

The undercoating (and hood pad) was option 579 from 66-68
My 67 fastback has it (factory) and it isn't on the data tag.
