Better wear that seat belt and hope its not attached to the door. If that door pop open on a turn, the passenger could fall out--un likely but a bit of a maybe.

In Mexico the cabs with broken door locks use rope to keep the door shut.

You know I got a decent handle on traffic laws, least in my state but this case I feel could go either way.

It might come down to 50--50 at fault. She open the door and he took off, yeah I tend to feel its more her fault but then who isn't to say she had her door open and THEN the truck pulled out--in that case its 100 % his fault.

Video tape would be a big help--if Canadian Tire gives a hoot to find it for you

It doesnt pop open on its own, it still latches, ya still gotta pull on the handle.

So Lori and I were out TRYING to finish up Christmas shopping. Pull into Canadian Tire parking lot up beside a 1/2 truck towing a utility trailer. We both get out and I shut my door, I hear Lori yelling, I look over and buddy is pulling away, but the fender on his f'n trailer has caught the pass side door and is proceeding to fold it fwd like a god-damned chicken wing!! Dickhead doesnt even notice until I YELL!! So no apology or nothing from the guy, what a dick. I didnt want to fold the door back as it was grabbing on the fender. I didnt have any option though, so bend it back in and have to use most of my strength to shut it. So after spending 2 hours at the collision reporting center we got to "finish up" the shopping. Wouldnt be so bad as he is 100% at fault. But guaran-frickin-teed I will have a $1000 deductable!! I'll post pics tomorrow in the daylight.

Yep exchanged info etc, its been reported, just gotta wait for insurance to open on Wednesday.

Sooo a little insurance update. I got a call from the claims dept from my insurance company...they rec'd a call from the other dipshits insurance company. When I explained the circumstances, they said ooooh, let me read a rule to you that was passed by the Ontario Government....I said Ooooh lemme hear it!!! Im dying to.....so she tells me that I am partially at fault, cuz Lori's door was open....WTF?? So I says to nice lady...Helga lets call her....how do you get in and out of vehicle without opening the door??? This is an F150 not a frickin Torino, so no Starsky and Hutch entry here darling. I told her that if I was parked and rear ended and my door was open does that put me at fault?? Oooo Mr Starsky, that is a good question, I will have to talk to my claims specialist and find out for you. Helga wanted me to phone back with the accident report #, I said pi$$ on that, I will deal with my broker not some department at head office. Spoke to my broker and told her this is simple common sense and all my business will go elsewhere. She said she will call HO. Well I received a call from HO today and considering this "special circumstance" I am 0% at fault and 0 deductable. So wait till next week and start getting estimates.....think I could push them into a Lamourghini for a rental??? By the way this is the 3rd time I have fought with an insurance company and won. Its true that they all initially refuse, but stand your ground and they will buckle!

Yeah but like you said, she was just normally opening the car door and even if she was 25% to blame the insurance will just do the right thing and pay the full amount, why fight over 25%, to them its not worth it.

Plus its holiday time right now, office parties, x-mas.

Sorry to hear about the lousy Christmas "Present" you got from a stranger. At least your wife was not hurt.

I do see that at least 3 good things have come out of the situation:

1) Your insurance company came thru in the end, cost you some headaches but no $

2) You had another reason to create a thread and talk with all of your cyber friends

3) You now have a good reason ro get rid of that Ford and buy a Hemi RAM!!!!!!!

Hey Ma Snart, my buddy has an 06 Hemi Ram bought brand new cost him somewhere around 50K!! 3 years later worth 1/2 that due to economy. Beautiful truck but he also just spent huge $$ redoing the front end. The last company I worked for, their entire fleet were Ford trucks, and as a sales rep I had 3 of them and not one of them ever caused problems. 1st truck I got from them dad ended up buying it from them as they were selling off due to high km's. He ended up selling it with over 360k and only thing he had to do was replace a starter. Love the rams, but the reliability of Ford trucks is amazing!! Nice smoke show in the RAM btw! Not very often I offer a warm welcome, but seeing as how ya got a fish, I thought it would be the proper thing to do...LOL
