Pick a Part age policy?? What gives?

More of a Rant, but I never noticed that there is an age policy at my local LKQ pick a part. 16 years and you must show an ID.? Serious how lame is this?

I drove 45 minutes to a further LQK on dreaded 40% off day. I get there, there is no parking, and there is a line of 50 people to get in the gate. Me and my 14 year old (this was gonna be a father/son junkyard day) get in line, get to the front and attendant refuses him entry. I talked to supervisor, he also refuses entry. I try to lie and say he is 16, but they say he needs an ID. I say he dont drive so no ID. He says he needs a School ID. Why? School ID isnt going to show birthdate.
Anyhow super lame. Is this a new rule? Or have I just never paid attention for the past several years? I guess we will have to get a fake ID in order to get into the junkyard

And if your 14 year old made a mistake and he was injured working on the cars, would you sue the business for letting someone that young enter the yard? They're only taking steps to protect themselves from possible lawsuits.

Up here in the North state of California, they are called Pick-N-Pull's, and they have basically the same policy for entry into the yards.

Liability issue.
Been like that forever, since they invented the self serv yards.

Actually i would happily sign a liabilty release and promise not to sue. I think it is probably an insurance issue. They get a cheaper premium if they put an age requirement. I was able to get him in at another yard. They dodnt even question nor ask for id

Sure adults can sue, but adults sign a release of liability to get into the yard. The law prevents minors from signing their own release, just like minors are prevented by law from entering into a contract.

Yeah, I had that issue too with my son but now he's 18 and drives so it's all good. It was pretty annoying. I just made him wait in the car while I pulled stuff. So which LKQ did you go to? I usually see if the one in Wilmington, Santa Fe Springs, Monrovia, or Anaheim have anything worth pulling.

Insurance regulations are nothing new. LKQ here has had age restrictions since day one.
I got hired on in the textile mill at 16 but I still couldn't ride the elevators in the plant for 2 more years.

Man I used to go all the time with my Brother-in-law, when I lived in NJ. About late 70's early 80's I couldn't have been but 10-12. But, I'm also sure things were different back then.

It's been 16 years old for a long time in California. My son Cody is now in his 40's and he was really upset when he was 15 years, 11 months and 14 days and they wouldn't let him in.
