My bad, 1999 magnum 360 out of a dodge Durango.030 over Hypereutectic pistons stock bottom end 9.1 cr. Stock 1.6 pedestal rockers. I don’t have the cam spec , the cam was already in stalled in the engine, it‘s a mild hydraulic roller, I can hear that it’s not stock. And I won this in a car show this weekend, one of two trophies awarded. Drag strip and car show this week, I had a great week.

I like your Demon. I’ve been waiting to see more information on your car.

I can finally post here! I’ve owned my Demon since I was 15 years old (54 now)
Bracket raced it quite a bit back in the 80’s to the early 90’s with a low compression 360 and a .484 purple shaft cam to consistent 12.30’s - 12.40’s
The car became an afterthought when family needs to come first....raising a boy that got a good education and played hockey through Juniors, divorce - re-married, in a stable part of my life with too much time, barely enough money and the energy level is lower and body pains become more prevalent.
I’ve spent the last 5 years doing a full rotisserie restoration and building it the way I’ve wanted to for years!
Technology has come a long way since the days of the Purple Shaft Cams and B&M Super Holeshot Converter!
Car is all steel with US Cartool frame connectors, a fiberglass six pack scoop (hood isn’t painted yet) stock glass/interior.
Front end is pretty much stock w/QA-1 90/10 shocks - front runner tires.
Rear end is 8 3/4, S/S springs moved in to frame rails, 4.30:1 gear, Mopar long shocks for S/S Springs and M/T 275/60-15 Drag radials.
Engine is a .30 over 360 with a Rod Bloomer 4.125 crank/kit to equal 420 cubic inches.
Compression is near 10.5:1 eddy heads gasket matched and some bowl blending/Hughes roller rockers.
Bullet hydraulic roller cam .573 lift around 250 @50 duration. Eddy Super Victor intake with a Holley 750HP that flows 820.
Trans is a well built 904 with 2.76 low gear set, T/A manual valve body and a PTC converter that flash stalls right about 4000 rpm.
MSD 6AL ignition and an aeromotive A2000 fuel pump.
Went to the track Sunday, it was about 65 degrees, slight tail wind, perfect conditions!
Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised!!!
I have many people to thank that have helped….
Demonx2 helped with carb fine tuning - ALOT!!
67Dart and Crackedback helped with electrical gremlins (As they help just about everyone on here!)
I’m sure there’s many more that I've asked questions, gotten advice, and have read a lot to build this car as it sits today.
For that, I am very grateful.
Enough of my boring story....time for the good stuff!
Sunday morning I woke up at 4am….like a kid on Christmas morning….I just grabbed coffee and went to the garage.
Hooked up the car about 8am, got to the track about 9.
Waited til they opened the lanes at 10:30 - warmed up the drivetrain with a few laps around the pits and jumped in line.
I was hoping I didn’t forget how to do all this….did a decent burnout, staged and decided to make an easy pass.
Had a good launch from about 1200 rpm, shifted early and lifted - ran a 12.35! Ok Wow! That was easy.
Next pass…..it’s game on.
Did a good burnout, launched at 1500…..and the pics will tell the rest of the story.
The 4:30 is a bit steep, the engine wasn’t pulling as it should have through the lights and singing at around 6500.
Going to look into a 4:10, maybe 3:91.
Needless to say I am very pleased and so happy to be in this club.
Thanks for listening and definitely thanks for all the help gang!!

Wally.

wow! Really good 60” your car leaves hard. Way to go.

Thx! I updated my thread "The 72 Demon Follies..." with the latest. 11.14 @ 118.2 is now my best in the cool fall air.
Good Pass, we are Mopar guys and we play hard. I like your ET and mile an hour. 10 seconds is around the corner for you. Keep up the good work.

How does it drive on the street?

Street/strip Demon runs in our NSS brkt class here>
340/416ci, 10:1
2.02 J heads, 78cc, no porting
Comp 280Hyd.cam
727 with Hughes 3800 stall
8.3/4", 3.91's/28" slicks
SS springs, 2 x 650DP's on TR
best 11.3's regular 11.5's.
2023 will see it with 850DP
Air Gap, TF190's (now 11.4:1) and a .600"+hyd.roller added
should be well in the 10's.

How does it drive on the street?
I've said in another thread that I do drive this on the street more than you'd think. Drive it to car shows, cruises, etc. I'd say it drives normal for a car with manual steering and manual brakes. But "normal" probably means different things to each of us. If I'm crawling over a roll cage side bar and strapping in a 5-pt harness, I know I'm not getting in a car for a long day's drive to granny's house. I expect it to make lots of noise and rumble along and it does all those things well. Cal-Tracs also make noise when you hit bumps but it just reminds you of what you're driving. When you pull up to a red light, the 'glass hood reminds you of the cam in the engine. And like any other 408, it just begs you to put your right foot into it. But with a 12 gallon fuel cell, and the bright red color that may attract the wrong attention for "exhibitions of acceleration", I tend to keep my foot out of it so the ride doesn't end too soon! (Although for some strange reason, during the summer months, there have been known to be some extended tire marks on local streets that nobody quite knows where they came from....). I suspect the white lettering on the glass with the car number and whatnot probably doesn't help the stealth factor....

The car cools fairly well and the trans does not run hot at all. (It may hit 190F after a few spirited stop light antics but will drop back to 160-170F when I flip the trans cooler fan on for a few minutes.) The only thing that has let me down (twice!) is a MagnaFuel fuel pump. I don't run a return line so I'm sure the pump didn't like that to go with the extended run times of driving on the street. After the 2nd failure, it was replaced with an Aeromotive pump and so far, so good.

I built this car with the hopes to run 11.30 and still be street legal. In the cooler fall air, it clicked off a pair of 11.14's @118.2 mph. So mission accomplished there. BUT....the front suspension needs some work as, while the ET's keep improving as I tune on the car, it has gotten to the point of being unstable at speed. To the tune of having to lift too many times at the track!! It basically has no proper caster so this winter's project hopes to be some adjustable UCA's to dial in some caster and make this thing stable at speed. And then keep racing it at the track and enjoying it on the street too!

Just curious, what front tire are you running?
I run the M/T 26x7.5-15 tires (M/T #1573). Rear slicks are M/T ET Drag bias ply 28x10.5W-15. When on the street, I run M/T ET Street SS P295/55R15 drag radials in the rear. (pic in street trim - and without the glass lettering!)

Those are the bias ply Sportsman correct?
Do you happen to know the weight bias of your car? And air pressure you run? I’m likely going down the wrong path but I ran those tires (26” versions) on my van and as they wore my handling went into the tank. Not really ideal going down the track. I have about a 60/40 bias but I dealt with it. I now run regular radials as light as I could find and it’s a night and day difference. Might not be your issue just thought I’d mention it.

Correct - they are bias ply. They are the heavier sidewall ones as I didn't want to cut it close on weight capacity. No clue on car weight - guesstimate is 3300 with me in it. Tires are too new to have any real wear. Tires are rated for 60 psi - I run 55. Until I get suspension settings correct, I know I can't expect it to handle properly. Thx for the input!

I bet its faster with the TR, I believe that first combo ran those numbers even with stock port J's because of the TR!

Love the car looks great
what was your mph and trap rpm?
thanks

Well I haven't raced my dakota in 2 years, but I finally got off my butt and raced it at my home track for the last race of the year. All I did to the dakota is install a brand new set of MT 295/65/15 ET Street R tires. Made 8 passes that day and drove it back on the trailer under its own power. So I think that was a win in my book. Lol for some reason if I tried to bring it out of the hole any over 3000 RPM, the truck would blow the tires off. My best pass a new best of the day was a 7.12 and 11.21 in the 1/4. But for some reason my mph was allmost 2 mph slow that day.
