Hi A-bods,

I would love to boast about my NINES but 'cash and weight' probably stopped me...:BangHead:
I was told, 'back in the day' that I could run a NINE without NOS and an IRON 440ci motor.
My car was approx 2800lbs and was tagged to run EIGHTS, so well capable. (did run 8.20@180 on street tyres)
So to save time and trouble I bought the best 440ci drag-motor in the UK I could find.
Came up short though at 10.40 @ 132.
Has anyone here run 9's with an iron 440ci motor in a street car?

If so, please spill the beans on how you did it???:thankyou:

Actually, most everything of what you need to know is already here.
The short coming of iron heads IMO is air flow. Jim LaRoy (IQ52) has ported iron heads in the past. Look up his screen name and see what an iron head can flow. Measure it against the aluminum heads.

The easiest way to make up for power deficiencies is ether a bottle of nitrous oxide and/or a super charger/turbo. Also do your best to make the best of the weight of and within the car.
BEST of luck to you. Happy ET hunting!

Nice reply Rumble.
Back in the day (1990's) just running a ten was my mission.
Running a mid ten felt very fast at first, but like beer you get used to it!
But life and money stopped me in my tracks and twenty years has rolled past, you get to thinking of nines.
Most of the guys then were running fairly stock 440's with 'new breed' ali heads, dreaming of NiNeS.
Some did it, but most didn't, now it seems folks are talking of EiGhTs...
CFM flow in the 300's was 'holy grail' but now that's chicken feed.
400 cfm is a new ceiling to find coupled with a plethora of 'bolt on goodies'.

Twenty years is a LONG time in drag racing and the 1320 is now 1000...
Uk folks are talking about 1/8 mile racing, where will it all END???

My '73 Duster "Orange Sunshine" I've owned for almost 9 years.

Clay Smith 460 Hyd Flat Tappet Cam
Super Victor Intake w/ 1050 Dominator on E-85 Fuel and a Magna Fuel 500 pump

727 Trans with all good sh*t internally and Trans Brake

Ladder Bar Suspension
9" with 430 Gears
Rear tires 15x32 Goodyear

The car weighs in at 2860 with out me.

All my racing has been 1/8 mile with times of 6.19/6.21. The few quarter mile passes I have made, my best was 9.78 @ 138

Car 8479 right lane

Definitely more in it. Should be able to run 9.70’s.
I don’t have a license to run faster the 10.0’s, otherwise I would push it a bit harder

Update. Went 8:85 with a top end miss @ 152 MPH. 1.271 60'.
Mopar drags Woodburn Oregon. Predictor said 8:72...Miss fixed now. ....
#1 qualifier, made it to the semi's when the car went right at launch. Car never does that. They sweep, and we were the 1st pair out. Must have drug water.
540 all aluminum Indy...-1 heads hogged out, 770 lift 55mm custom comp came.Single APD custom Dommy on alky. 2840 lbs.

This car has evolved nicely! Your incrementals are VERY similar to mine. The 2 cars are really very similar.

5.75 / 117
9.10 / 145 best so far…. Still 1200DA
just not enough mph to be one of the “cool kids” :)
