I am going to convert my 70 Duster front suspension over using a K member and disc brake set-up from a 73 A body. I am thinking about having the parts powder coated. Are there any issues that need to be addressed as far as the coating on the parts? I assume that they cap off the threaded ends to protect the threads?

Thanks for the props Toolman Mike! :-D

Carcrazy, I can't speak to what other powder coating shops do, but I protect every threaded area, machined surface, etc. prior to coating the parts. You will NOT find coating anywhere it's not supposed to be when your parts come home from my shop. There's a ballpark Price List on my website to give you an idea of the cost of your various suspension components (cleaning them yourself will save you a lot of coin). As a FABO member, you're also entitled to a 10% discount on the labor!

It's not advertised anywhere, but if you toss the related hardware in the box with your parts, I'll blast it, mask off all the threads and coat the bolt heads / washers / nuts / eccentrics to match, usually at no extra charge (unless the stuff is filthy LOL).

There are several hundred work sample pics on my website's Gallery, and a bunch of those are suspension parts. Please feel free to give me a call if you wish to discuss details.

From the price list I am guessing to coat all the front suspension parts it would cost about $500 plus shipping. Once I get a quote from the local company..I may just have to paint them.

She had a smoking hot Sep Special. Think it was something like $350 for everything. Even if going by her price list, don't forget, as a FABO member you're still gonna get a discount. I'd either PM her or better yet, give her a call. I can tell you she is easy to work with and her work is top notch.

Nahhhhhhhh, I'll work with you! The prices on my website Price List are not only ballpark guidelines (mostly based on worst case scenario with filthy parts, disassembly required, etc.), but don't take into consideration a bunch of stuff being shipped at one time. Your FABO discount applies, as well as a "group" sort of discount for multiple pieces sent at once.

Every job is quoted individually. Having a few photos of your parts is extremely helpful and lets me have a good opportunity to judge the necessary prepwork that will be required. Knowing what color(s) you have in mind and how much cleaning I have to do to get the stuff ready to blast plays a big part in the final quote.

A month ago, I offered a complete suspension package for a flat rate (look for the September '09 Monthly Special thread for details). I might even be inclined to extend -- or sweeten -- that special just for you in order to earn your business. I'm easy to work with, I promise. :-D

PSC has more than fifty happy FABO customers (and probably more than half have provided formal write-ups for the PSC Feedback page) who can tell you it won't be money badly spent if you decide to use powder over a spray job.

I very much appreciate your candor and comments, and look forward to talking about the job with you.
