Pro Stock. The good old days

X-block. 1979. Coincidental? ...... Bought it from a car and parts flipper. It wasn't something I needed, but top-shelf of that particular "cool range" of stuff. Gonna clean up the outside, and display or sell it. Inside looks like it was assembled yesterday. The outside is dusty.

Yup, looks like mopar stuff to me. LOL From my unused/complete Glidden SB mopar.

Kind of trivial with everything else going on there, but along with needing to have a differently clocked (twisted) valve end of the rocker to match the valve tip, it would seem that the valve end of a shaft mounted rocker would have a hard time following the canted valve especially since the valve lift was probably 0.800"+
Or, more simply, could you post a picture of the valve side of the rocker?

The engine is wrapped and buried in the back of my shop. It would take most of a day to get it out and open some stuff up. I haven't done any "car-work", for almost a year. Last year was **** for me. I'm getting mobile and slowly stronger....but I only had about 10 "good" days last year. Gotta get some strength and stability, back. That engine isn't a priority. I'd sell it to a seriously interest party. No bullshitters or tire-kickers.

Got ya. I appreciate you posting the pictures that you had. I'm glad you're making progress on strength and stability--I had no knowledge of your health issues.

They
WJ never cheated. Neither did Glidden. I forget which one of Glidden‘s kids that told him most guys were cheating but it was near the end of his career and he was qualifying at the bottom of the show.

So the kid hooked up the nitrous and hid it like some were and he went out and qualified close to the top of the field.

Bob made him take it off right after that but the car passed tech after that run.

I think there were a scant few not cheating. WJ, KJ and Glidden are 3 come to mind.
They Have a interview on DragBoss Garage(YouTube) with Billy Glidden explaining the details of how he was almost caught himself when a tech inspector had his hands on the back cage bars and was commenting how cold they got after a run(nitrous inside) but never caught on. Bob was completely against it. But it's all in detail in the interview and that many teams were doing it.

Great thanks for sharing! I was just about to do a seperate post about this. I seen these pictures on a recent Drag Boss posting about the Arrow. Super cool that you have it! I screen shot every picture they showed of the engine! I'm still a bit young being only two in 79 but definitely appreciate the history! And still amazed of what they did with what they had!

the claim is that they were caught but it was not officially released because of the dodge sponsorship which was the reason for the break in. unofficial suspension. kind of like when in basketball the rumors are when jordan retired the first time and went to play baseball it was because he got caught gambling and it would have been too big of an embarrassment to the nba to let that out so they made him "retire" for a year.
And yet baseball crapped all over Pete Rose.

I know, right? Who in their right mind wouldda ever thought a big block wouldda fit in one? I don't remember what Glidden ran, I think it was a small block, but there were several who ran big motors in them.
W2 headed small block with slightly canted valves...Its on the web.

Yeah I knew he ran the W2 motor.......I've actually seen it in person long ago and far away. lol There were several Arrows though with big blocks. We had a local guy in Warner Robins who had a stock bore and stroke 440 in an Arrow years ago. This was well before all the strokers.

rose was his own worst enemy.

if he came out and admitted he gambled instead of denying it it for decades he would have gotten onto the HOF. then all the under age stuff came out.. dude was scum of the earth.. could play ball though...

I don't disagree.....he deserved the HOF, though. Look how many guys were into doping and everybody knew (knows) it.

true, but it says everywhere that if you bet on baseball you are out. he knew it and still bet. then refused to admit it for decades. if he had come clean early on i think he would be in. he did it to himself.

I always thought that he was hated so much, he musta poked the commissioner's wife or some such. He was that kinda guy.

Sadly, there are guys in the HoF that did things far more disgusting and criminal than that.

And I’m sure there will be more going in that are more disgusting and criminal.

Baseball is a joke and has been a joke for decades now.

Rose got screwed.

We will never know the truth of what made the commish do what he did.

Or the HoF board of directors. It’s hypocrisy at its finest. Baseball has NEVER been a pure as the wind driven snow.

i think it was that he just continued to lie.

this is true but, it says in every locker room that if you bet on the game you are banned for life. no real rules about the other stuff.

How in the hell did John's thread get posthumously revived & hi-jacked about the Baseball HOF????...lol..
