Rat Style Muscle Cars

I'm sorry call me a snob BUT I drove cars that looked like that when I was a teenager (80's) I ALWAYS dreamed of "someday" having the money to have a really nice old Mopar including the paint. I'm my late 50's the dream has been realized. I just don't get the "patina" look??? Yea clear coat over rust??? I don't think so............

I don't have the money to drive a car that nice. I don't have to worry about the kids hitting it with their bikes, door dings, driving in the rain, etc. Built to drive!

I've had a couple cars that looked like that, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Today I just don't have the interest in or the budget to build or buy one. I still have my 42k original mile 1976 Pontiac Ventura and it does get driven, but my preference is for the ratty look.
Nothing wrong with your car, and nobody is knocking it, it really is a very sharp looking ride.

Ratty and unrestored...most have the original paint still...and got em all dirt cheap ...

That's a beautiful car, but I still refer you to the tag line under my handle over there.

At home I cut off the frame rails, inner fenders and core support and fitted a fully intact stub from a '70 Belvedere.

Love it!

It’s like I usually tell people when they ask when I’m gonna paint my Duster. I REALLY like muscle cars that are redone and beautifully painted (like your awesome Barracuda) I’ve just come to realize that I enjoy working on cars and driving them a LOT more than do keeping them shined up and detailed. I would love to have a beautiful restomod type car someday, but I’ll always enjoy and have a few ratty ones as well.

Oh I don't mind "original" paint cars with a little "patina" like my late friends 68 HEMI CHARGER lol or the 70 Challenger R/T I owned previously. Original paint does not mean ratty.

Pulling a rusted hulk out of the weeds and making it run again is great. I hate to see old cars scrapped. To each his own no offense intended just not my "thing"

No offense taken here. Btw, can’t wait to get my shop done so I can get that A/C installed in my Duster and be able to cruise in comfort all summer long!

I absolutely love this car. I would have to have the 340 stripes and patina them to match. Aside from that you have nailed the look.
Stripe kits are just vinyl or close, I called around to see if anyone would make aged, weathered stripes, everyone thought it was a cool idea, but nobody signed up

Very similar to what I am doing, but I am taking a bunch of liberties. Awesome car

Drive the F'ing piss out of it, let the next caretaker worry about it, that's where I'm at these days.
I run my GSS Mr Norms Demon as much as possible. It isnt perfect and has a bunch of day 2 mods.

I'll add some pics of my rat named Kriss.
400, M.V.B. auto, 7 1/4 w/ 410's.
Can't say it's my daily as I have to use a truck.
But I drive it several times a week.
The wing came off the BlackBird.
The only state patrol Superbird, owned and driven by Rex Sagle with the New Mexico State Patrol.

Love your beater KD. It's fun to cruise in, get out, and lean against your car with a beer in your hand. Set an empty on the hood? Sure, why not!

Speaking of that Mike @toolmanmike when at Road America a few years ago, this car had glasses and bottles on it. $1M to build and rules changed so it couldn't be used

I enjoy all cool cars restored or not with day two and modified cars at the top of my list. Mine was built to keep the well worn look but I also repaired all the rotten areas along the way. So if I ever decide to paint the car that work is already done. I know GM trunk paint! I'm not a GM guy and never was but if the Sox & Martin built Ronald Lyles Cuda could run it back in the day I'm not too far out of line.

This is a cool thread! My 70 duster spent almost 30 years in a salvage yard weathering its original FJ5 paint to its currant state. I dig the patina look myself and will run my Duster that way for a few years before it gets repainted. Although since it is apart Im going to repaint the engine bay, trunk, door jams etc When I replace the lower rear quarters and tail panel Im going to weather the paint and hopefully blend it into the original. Also going to add the 71 340 stripes to it and weather them in as well.
That looks rad bud
