rear main leak

It leaks directly at the bottom of the seal not from the sides. that's why I want to machine the aluminum seal holder to shorten it and tighten the seal clearance.
I tried the couple thousandths of method , twice , found my seals bolt holes were not lined up right for it to set on the crank right , u might try boring the holes a "little" bigger and using some long studs to guide it up in when installing it , I did , but ended up getting an after market cap..
I thing Mancini racing may have the beast one offered , wish I`d gone with them instead of eBay...jfyi

I have already re-assembled my engine with a Best seal rope seal. It fits tighter than any of the Fel-Pro, Viton, or Fast Fish seals. I also used a case sealer on the retainer rather than an RTV. I will follow up with results when I fire it back it up.
As for the Mancini seal, I could not find anything published that indicated a larger than "stock" 2 piece seal. The video I found where a guy measured them was the only information I have seen, and the part number does not specify.
What is a "case sealer"? Do you mean those long skinny retainer side seals?

I used Moto-seal, a motorcycle case sealer adhesive, made by Permatex. I couldn't get Yamabond (as recommended) for weeks due to supply issues (Amazon) so opted for a substitute. I used the Viton side seals in the retainer. I really like the way the Moto-seal cures, I don't anticipate a retainer leak as there hasn't been any evidence of oil getting by the sides or base, just the bottom seal. Getting closer to stabbing the engine back in. Will follow up.

I hope it works out for you. We had to take the my crank out of my 435 and send it to a crank shop have them weld it up and turn it back down. They left it 5000 over and narled it and it stopped leaking.

I love Moto-Seal, and have been using it on rear mains and intake gaskets for literally over 2 decades. It is THEE only sealant that is impervious to gasoline and I too like how its "runny" and how it cures. J.Rob

Final follow up on the leaky seal. I used a rope seal w/Moto-seal, and almost leak free. I had a couple drips after a few heat cycles, but not doing anything more. Hopefully it stops on its own.
