I was told that its a big risk to run my used cam( magnum .306 w/ 260 at 50) for my 410 stroker. .so was wondering wat cam I should go with? Wat would you guys do ?? Want around 500+hp

Why would it be a big risk?

Well that's wat my machinst is telling me. I mean I have the lifters matched up so I thought It would be ok to run. He said it can either run smoothly fine or it will grind the cam up pretty quick. Also he doesnt want me to have all the machine work done then put a used cam in it. . So just trying to decide wat to do .go with a new cam or run the one I have now?

If the cam is good I would run it without worry,I always use new lifters though even on used cams, its good insurance.

The cam was broken in and then drove no more than 5 miles so its still in perfect condition. Not scoring or anything. So I guess ill buy new lifters to be safe.

As long as your positive you know where the lifters go on the respective lobes and there's no visible problem with the cam or lifters I see no reason at all not to use it. Since it wasn't ran much I would re-use the lifters. I have done it with no problem.

One thing to check when installing lifters (anytime) is to make sure they rotate freely in the lifter bores. The stroker I'm doing right now had a couple lifter bores with small burrs in them that would have probably cause problems.

Oh yeah, that cam should be plenty good for 500 hp as long as everything else (heads, intake, carb, etc..) is up to the task.

I too would do the same.

If this was an existing engine I'd say run it. But you're spending $XXXX on a new engine, and running a used (albeit lightly) camshaft? I dont see the logic. If it's the cash, sell it and partially pay for your new one. Your builder is really who you should be trusting tho. It's your dime and his name.

Some people get really anal about things. I'm going to reuse my cam and lifters in my new engine. This cam and lifters have been in two other blocks and will go in the third, I am unconcerned.

If you just want to be sure then install new lifters and perform the break in procedure again. No need what so ever to buy a new cam.

ok guys ill just re use it and buy new lifters only reason ill buy new lifters is because they were in a egg carton in cylinder order and it got knocked over "OOPS". i looked at all the lifters they dont have any concave??? to them( if thats the right word to use) or anything like that so can i use em or play it safe and get new ones ???

Be safe - buy a new custom cam that is specific to that engine build and new lifters.
used lifters may hang up in a different block for any number of reasons - be safe, not sorry.

I'd buy a new cam as well. Just for the simple fact that Murphys law is tattooed on my forehead. Plus i think Murphy built my house and invented liberals as well.
