We all have run into dull drill bits at one time or another and they can drive you crazy and are dangerous as well.I know some of you who are machinists can sharpen drill bits with your eyes closed.I can't,so I picked up this little machine for a reasonable price and I find it works very well.Any others out there?

I've sold them for years. They work great for larger bits like 3/16 and larger. The smaller bits are so small they're hard to sharpen. toolmanmike

I got one on sale a couple of years ago and it's paid for itself a hundred times now , as a finish carpenter doing a lot of cabinet work I use a couple of sizes of smaller bits and drill over a hundred holes in a day so new bits become old in a day or two the trick is to get them centered in the jaws perfectly , I've ground a couple of 3" bits down under 2"s over time , thats a lot of savings at
6-10 bucks a pop for good ones

They work real well. I use to run a sharpening shop and had the pro model. I was skeptical on the plastic one but I've used it pretty hard and it did well.

Hey Toolman, is it cheaper to get a new whell or buy another one??

You can turn the wheel over when one side gets worn out. Replacement wheels are a little over $30. toolman

I have some cheesy little sharpener that works pretty well. Heck of a lot better than buying new all the time.

I usually sharpen by hand, and some bits I use as "disposable" and put crazy angles on, so they cut faster or more centered, depending on application.

I always wondered how well they worked ? do you have a prise you can share with me ?

my father had one at one time, but the replacement griding wheels were more exspensive then the whole machine. If i remember right they were oddball sizes as well so you could not just go to your nearest welding shop to pick up a replacement wheel.. Also it was limited on sizes if i remember right. try sticking a 1" drill bit in there.

Instead we switched to a home made model thats attached to a table grinder. I will have to hunt down a picture later.

Quote try sticking a 1" drill bit in there.

I have never used a 1'' drill bit or have a drill that will hold one.
I have sharpened a few but I don't think I have the skill and a vice to do it that way anymore. Are they expensive ?

Good to know this stuff both negative and positive. I've been thinking of buying one of these things for years. Does it work on cobalt bits?

yep, and I have that attachment that is bolted next to the grinder, for bits larger than 1/2. Never had much luck with it.

That particular model is limited to 1/2" bit max. They have an extensive line of sharpeners right up to big industrial ones(worth some serious money)

I use the Drill Doctor 750X almost everyday at work on everything from big to small bits and it works great on everything, I love it! I still need to pick one up for my garage.
