memmike, I know this is my dumb, but I would like to learn new construction techniques, so do you mind if I ask: What is it about your roofing system that allows it to get by with less support between the rafters than I would normally expect to see? Am I wrong? Am I wrong?

I was lucky to see this unit for sale here in town, 5 tones of a/c and heat (Heat pump package unit) for the shop for $500.00. my oldest son stepped up and bought it, and I just finished forming up and pouring 800 lbs of concrete  Now to buy some 8 gage thnn stranded wire and buy a thermostat

It's looking good Mike. When it's all done your wife will never see you much because you will be in the shop.
I stay in mine more than the house for sure.

I believe our specs are different further north. Probably because of the snow load.

I bet you are right, because all the metal buildings here for farmers and businesses are dun this way, very strong there are 2 2x4 in each run between the rafters Mike, and the metal roofing is a heavy gage

When I got my building permit I ask what the codes were and they said they didn't care how I built it.

Around here, removing the humidity is the key. 85° and dry is quite comfortable.

Sorry Mike I meant 12' tall, I'm 6" deep but well insulated.
Don't need ac in the garage would only need it a few days a year. But where you live you seldom use heat I would guess.

Here in northest Arkansas yesterday it was 97 degrees outide, 105 in the shop at 2pm. humidity was 89 percent in the shop at the I started up the used unit and it runs perfect. two hours later the humidity was 53 percent and 77 degrees  memikie is a happy camper :thankyou::thankyou:

The time and cash (500.00) for the unit and a couple hundred getting it up and running is very cheep for this 3 tone unit. another step is dun, now to pipe a supply vent (14") and build a return filter box
