I cannot remember his screen name to save my soul.

72BBSwinger ?

The car started with a 448" BB backed by a T56 and ended up with a 6.1 Hemi later. He sold it a couple years ago.

The whole BB vs SB thing is pretty moot. With aluminum heads, intake and water pump and a set of headers a BB will weigh in at less than a stock SB did. Sure, you can get a SB lighter too, but you can handle just as well if you know how to set up your suspension.

I don't remember. That might be him. But I remember well he was running in whatever class it is with Vipers Porches and whatnot. I remember him saying how they got him in the corners a little of course, but then he slap reeled them in on the straights. lol I think that mightta been him. I'm just awful with rememberin names. I always have been.

The "nose heavy" issue has been solved by aluminum heads, aluminum intake, headers, aluminum radiator, aluminum bumper, fiberglass hood (with scoop of course), skinny aluminum wheels with skinny tires, etc, etc, etc. So there's no reason for not putting a big block in an A body!!!:steering::steering::steering::steering::thumbsup::thumbsup:

And don't forget about the aluminum block!!

untill u have to change plugs, or pull the headers , or all of the above to change the starter -------------------------jmo

You can make a big block weigh what a small block weighs much easier and cheaper than you can make a small block weigh what a slant six weighs.

Except for power steering and torsion bar clearance, it's not a terrible fit.

unless its r/b w/ raised port heads !

I guess if the OP can't stand a big wedge in an A, he'd have a heart attack if somebody showed up with a 26 hemi

Guys are disappointed and shocked all the time when my sons stock crank 360 is a second faster than their big block Duster.

I’m not saying there aren’t any big blocks running faster than 10.20’s locally but very limited numbers. I know my small block running 9.40’s puts a lot of big dollar “pig blocks” to shame. Trust me I love big blocks to but if I go that route it’s 8’s or faster.

Someone with big valvecovers..... That's all you need to know.... You claim to have a small block to whack big blocks, well here you go...

JW

I think so many miss the point. Far too many think "Big Block = must beat all small blocks".... LOL. What if a guy just wants a highway geared A-body? Like 2.76 gears and run 75 mph on the interstate all day?? But also wants a 12 second car?? And, not alot of money??? Why not buy a good running '77 440 for 500 bucks from a New Yorker, throw in a street cam, home port the 452's, now you have 375-400 HP and close to 500 ft lbs of torque without even rebuilding the bottom end. Doesn't this make sense for low dollar build??

Exactly my thinking, to me if you don’t want to put gears out back add displacement up front.

I feel the reason a lot of people build 408 and don’t know it cause they only want to run 3.55 gears instead of 4.30 behind a 360.

Can’t believe over the years how anti big block this site is, any time anyone’s wants to build something less than a 360 out comes the no replacement for displacement crowd but soon as big block comes up then that goes out the window guess 360/408 are the only majority approved combos.

Not saying everyone needs a big block but don’t see why it’s so overlooked. Especially given the reasons to go BB that 318willrun said.

Exactly. And just maybe somebody likes big blocks and it has nothing to do with performance, they just like or want them. There was a girl on this site that had a paper route and delivered the papers in a Dart with a 440 4-speed. It was a smog 440 and not built for speed at all, but it was what she liked I guess.

Here’s a Little 440 w/3.23’s will cruise 70mph all day long and have a little fun when it’s put to the wood. No race car, just a fun cruising RB Abody Duster.

A mild big block won't have to wind up to make good streetable torque. They start right off idle. Even the smaller 383 and 400 because of their large bores. They are both essentially a big block 340.

The bottom line is, there's always gonna be people who run down what you're doing and turn around and tell you how much better "their" way is. There are so many different ways of doing this, there really is no one "right" way.

the short version:
"my car, my money, my way" :)

My way is always the best way.................even when I don't know what I'm doing????:mob::poke::realcrazy::BangHead:
I'll never argue but I will always tell you why I'm right!!
