Hello,
I'm trying to make a comprehensive list of parts needed on hand for a weekend engine swap from an early A- body Slant Six to a 318. Specifically this swap. Will be attaching a list of parts that I'm aware of as being necessary components. This could be a great sticky if we stay on task with developing the list.

Can you all check it over and see what's missing?

WHAT I HAVE
Engine 318
Tranny 904
Correct Driveshaft for swap
Tranny crossmember notched for dual exhaust
Motor mounts Slant to 273/318 mounts need not be modified
Correct exhaust manifolds
V8 center link
90 degree oil filter adapter
Have Kelsey Hayes disc brakes for conversion ( I have so on the list)
Correct Torsion Bars ( .87 or better)
All new suspension bushings/ joints and for steering also ( I have so on list)

PARTS I NEED : Am I forgetting anything?

V8 Radiator
Floor Shifter / Cable
Kickdown Linkage
Gas pedal/ linkage (someone have this for sale?)

See post #5 Trans mount, see below for correct on.
See post #10 below about Timing Marks/ Water Pump orientation to Radiator
See post #14 Power steering vehicles need this info

10-4 on Trans mount. Do we have a part number or would this be a trans mount for a 1964-66 Dart/Valiant/Barracuda with a factory 273 in it?

Do you have the proper timing chain cover and water pump to match your car?

You will need that to coordinate with your radiator and timing marks...

Unsure at this point. Picking up the engine this weekend. It was in a 73 Dart, so I'm hoping all will coordinate well with the Radiator(which I don't have yet) But will make sure jives with your comments above. Thank you !! I was told that the engine is from somewhere between 1976-1984 if that helps determine it.

If it's from 76-84, then it should have the aluminum water pump and timing marks on the Driver's side.

Get a timing chain cover, timing marks (separate if not on cover) on passenger side, and cast iron water pump with a 64-66 v-8 radiator and then everything will hook up as if it were a factory 273 car including radiator hoses. Any timing cover from 64-69 will have the timing marks on the passenger side or the tab that bolts to the two bottom bolts of the cast iron water pump.

Just find TDC on the crank and make a new mark on the original 318 vibration damper to line up with the early timing marks on the passenger side.

You will also need to find the old style pulleys. If you don't have a/c, then use a single groove alternator pulley so the belt lines up properly.

So basically, find a 273 and strip the whole front of the engine to the block to get the pulleys, water pump, and timing covers. Then go to the parts store and order belts and hoses for your year car with a factory 273.

Good info! Didn't see this one coming so nice to know now. Much appreciated! Thank you.

I have a good early 318 damper that I can send for 20 dollars plus prob, 13 for shipping. Timing marks will be on the correct side.

Mopar Tim. Hold that for me please until I get this engine from Missouri next weekend to verify that it hasn't already been changed .

If your car has power steering, you will need to get the ps pump from a 64-69 model car. The brackets for the ps pump mount off the water pump for the early a's.

The mounting brackets are different from slant 6 p/s pump to the v-8 p/s pump...

The 70 and later power steering pump/brackets mount off the timing chain cover holes.

No power steering so I'm good there.. Thanks! But this is important for others to take note of making the same swap. Much appreciated. !

Any pictures for this power steering mounts?

You can split the wrap on the wiring harness and double back the oil pressure and ignition feed wires and retape. That's what I did on my wife's 64 Barracuda. No need to cut the wires.

Also have to check battery and starter cables. Swapping out my 225 for a 360. Have the same issues the other guys are posting along with the list you all ready have. Sounds like your getting it covered. Good luck.
