I need to replace my starter. I would like to replace with a mini starter. What would be the best starter to bay? Any advice will be appreciated

@67Dart273 has it covered.

I went to a pick and pull and grabbed one from a 1996 Ram. Paid $21 + $5 core charge. Used it for 6 years. Bought a new parts store unit when I did a Magnum swap.

I bought a parts store mini starter and with very little use gave problems within a couple years...
Then I went to a Pick-n-Pull and picked one up off the ground under a Dodge truck for $20 plus $2 environmental fee..
Took it home and cleaned it up with WD40, and never another problem...

I just replaced my Slant Starter with a mini from ebay. It was 36.99 and I can't believe that it just bolted up and turns the motor over so well. I believe I searched one for a 1981 dodge pickup V-8.

I got several used ones from 1990's Dodge trucks in junkyard. Cheap because half-off day, maybe $15 ea. One didn't work right when tested on the ground (grinding noise), which is the risk. I also bought 1 or 2 new rebuilt ones (place in LA), though some say used ones are better. I put in my 273 V-8 and 383 V-8. In the later, one slight bumped into the block so wouldn't fit. That was due to a plastic stand-off on the terminals. Some might also be clocked differently. Should be less fit problems in a slant, but always look close. Haven't put in my slant yet since starters are so easy to swap that I'll use up my old starters on it first.

The one I put in was in my Slant. It fit really nice and works great so far.

Are the minis better? I know uncle tony refuses to use the car but i don’t know why

Well it was 7 pounds lighter and bolted right up. It turns the engine over faster for better starting. I'm not sure how long it will last but 36.99 in unreal. I searched 1991 dodge pickup with 318 (ebay) that another member recommended.

I happen to have a couple 96 Dakota's so I bought one for that application. It has worked perfect for years on my 273.
