Starting engine without driveshaft hooked up

Just installed engine and trans. I've got the rear seal to trans still blocked off so no oil leaks out back. Has anyone ever fired an engine for 10-15 min. just to check for leaks without installing as driveshaft is still in shop being balanced?

Trans will spill fluid unless there is a yoke substitute.

You should have a yoke at least in it, because chances are fluid will come pouring out. Not under pressure, but a decent volume.
