The steering shaft comes through the collar in the firewall offcenter, it comes through straight not on an angle. The bushing at the end of the collar is missing. The column is centered in the dash yoke. The car doent seem to have been wrecked, I have owned it for 30 years it been this way since I have. I have a picture but dont know how to post it.
Any ideas

Do not force the column to line up with the instrument panel or anything else for that matter. The box coupling assumes a small amount of expected misalignment. If you force the steering shaft on way or another the bearings in the column will not survive.
When servicing I will use the hardware scars to locate the column back in its original position.
If ihis a new build with nothing to go by You'll need to hunt the sweet spot.

when i put mine back in i had the bolts tight on the piece that mounts up against firewall and it had a screwy angle once i loosend those 3 bols it went together fine

get a new nylon collar (Year One has em'..so do others) it will keep the shaft centered in the column.. slide it on...then follow Redfishs' instructions

Thanks much. I finaly got my FSM and tere is actualy a procedure outlined for centering the shaft in the collar
