Hi folks,

So this is probably more of a swap, but kind of a conversion too. I tried a few search terms but didn't find answers to my specific questions.

Okay, I have a '75 Sport, column shift automatic, power steering. I'm eventually putting in a floor shifter of some sort, to be determined later. I was gifted a complete column from a 340/4 speed , but it's a manual steering car. I *think* I know the answer but wanted to get confirmation: when I rebuild the column, can I just swap the shaft from the power steering column into the manual column? I mean, I know they are different lengths, but other than that they should interchange, yes?

Thanks!

Ah, I found my answer. I was overthinking the search - a simpler search for "are power steering and manual steering shafts interchangeable" got me a FABO answer in less time than it took to type it. :)

My apologies for the wasted electrons!

Well are they because I was going to do the opposite. Put a manual shaft in and replace a PS shaft
Yes, from everything I was able to find once I began searching properly, the shafts are identical and diameter and the way they fit, the length is the only difference. I have not yet done it, but looking at them side by side I can visually confirm.

I have a manual shaft from a 75 Duster and wanted to use it in my 1971 Dart with a PS shaft. Thank you for that. I was ripping my hair out trying to find an answer. Been a looong time since I've done this.

That's how I felt. I KNEW there was an answer, and finally found it.

Best of luck!
