Paid 1200.00 for a 71 340 challanger in 1979! 4 speed, pistol grip shifter, black with white int, perfect condition. Gone!
I was in the Navy, going to school in great lakes NTC, got transferred to San diego, not enough time to drive so I sold it for nothing!

Found my old car back a few years ago. Too far gone for my ability and my checkbook.

Morning folks. hope your all staying warm. ya all are bringing up memories. good and bad. My first car 15 was 69 Dart GT. $100 cash. Rusted out frame rails that spun out and dropped the front end. That was exciting at 50 mph. Sent to the wrecker at moms insistence. I didn't know anything. Just needed a car to get to the girls house!

The only old car I would go into dept for is my 64 Sport fury replacement. Last year in Carlisle I brought 50grand with me to buy one if there was one there that was perfect and was 50Grand of less. Not one there and that was probably a good thing...

I have a cool *** 2015 VW Goflf TDI! Turbo Diesel. Tone of torque and good HP down low. It is tuned with a Malone stage 2 tune, but hardware is unchanged.. A blast to drive. Top speed 134MPH verified by me!!!

There is a nice GN near here for sale...
Turbo Coupe Thunder bird is good. Had a Merkur XR4TI. Great car...85 86 87 88 89 MERKUR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION XR4TI 92057 | eBay

Just de-pooped the back yard. Chilly, but nice and sunny. Now if I can build up just a little more ambition I need to get a load of firewood in the stairway(about 6-7
wheelbarrow runs)before our next round of snow.

Annnnd I'm back. I stopped and looked at the cuda otw into work. I hadn't seen it a few years and i knew it was bad then. Its pretty much a total loss. It's not got a straight panel on it, looks like it was rolled down a dang cliff. yellow, 340 727 car with black hockey stripes. interior is somewhat there, but the passenger bucket and rear seats definitely aren't useable. that side of the car is shoved over almost a foot. How his daughter survived this is beyond me. Passenger side door is also completely missing. Looks like it was cut off at some point k frame is toast. Engine looks to be full of water. Gauges are still in it and look to be ok condition but the dash itself is chewed up pretty badly.

I started to take pics and got a couple but the guy was very emotional talking about it so I stopped taking pics and just listened. The story is heart wrenching. Car started life as a 318/727 car. I guess him and his son swapped it to a 340 after they bought it in 1984 he said. Wants to see it restored and not parted or crushed/scraped and offered to let it go for nearly nothing.

But I have to pass. I told him I just don't have the skills or even the money to bring that thing back to life. It needs not only new sheet metal everywhere but the frames are damaged too, even the A pillars have damage. Really, the only thing to do would be to find a donor and VIN swap it but at that point, its not the same car.

Well done Sir

Well done Sir
yeah, i offered to help him move it behind his barn and hide it from the junk car police. I guess a neighbor complained... how I don't know, it can't be seen from the road ways at all.

The rear axle and front brake are worth something. The dash vents are golden, The list goes on and on what can be sold....

I HIGHLY doubt the rear axle is even straight. It was right at the point of impact. Even then, I couldn't buy it and part it out. That and he was insistent that if I buy it, i'm buying it to restore not crush or part out. Which is when I had to break the news to him. I'm not even sure the guys at Graveyard cars could bring this thing back even.

The early four banger Turbo Coupe was trouble though. My co-worker tried to get the TC wheels etc for a v-8 t-bird but they wouldn't do it. Must have been '87 or '88. The 8 had better mpg and 1/4 mile times, and IIRC it cost less. :realcrazy:
Merkur was pretty good. I liked the trim on the Ford Europe version slightly better - called Sierra, at least in the UK.

That's the best you can do for now I think.
Let that seep in for a while.
At some point he may come to recognize he'd be better off with it out of sight and off his mind. That's not the type of reminder that's healthy.
And as far as the car goes, maybe come to see the best that can come of it is contributing to another car.
