Yea, If I put Drag slicks on that will be a handful on the track. I can see the roll bar/cage.true - see what happens when you buy a thumper like that!!?? there's ALWAYS something else to tweak...
tell ya what tim, I'm gonna solve the problem, trade me darts, problem solved, though i'm keeping my suspensionYea, If I put Drag slicks on that will be a handful on the track. I can see the roll bar/cage.

Like that! Good news. All they want is a roll bar over your head. dont require a cage.@ScampMike @Mopar Tim
huh boys...... direct from the NHRA 2017 year book...... found this.
"Unibody cars with stock floor and firewall (wheeltubs permitted) may attach roll bar with 6-inch x 6-inch x 0.125-inch (1/8") steel plates on top and bottom of floor bolted together with at least four 3/8-inch (0.375") diameter bolts and nuts, or weld main hoop to rocker sill area with 0.125-inch (1/8") reinforcing plates, with plates welded completely"
Back to bummer....Also, take note of this:
Required beginning at 11.49 with a closed car/truck, 13.49 with a convertible.
This topic will cover a 5-point roll bar as opposed to a roll cage. Most fellows these days will go ahead and build a cage while they have the welder and their tools fired up, but we'll cover the bar for those of you who don't plan on going 9's (or quicker). With an otherwise unaltered floor and firewall, a 5-point bar will take you to 10.00 flat. If the floor is altered in excess of 4 square feet (not counting wheel tubs or stock removable floor panels which are bolted, such as transmission removal panels on a pickup truck) or the firewall is altered in excess of 1 square foot, then a roll bar will take you to 11.00 and a roll cage as well as additional SFI equipment is required at 10.99.
sounds like you need a full cage for a convert...
4.5 for the better trip.so - I have to go to NJ on Saturday - do I a: go highway and deal with tolls and the somewhat crappy 3.5hr ride or b: avoid tolls, have slightly better/nicer ride and spend 4.5hrs one way..?
kinda leaning that way - I can likely do it in 4 as long as traffic isn't horrible..4.5 for the better trip.
I guess I could install and run the car, they have no way of predicting the time before hand , do they?Back to bummer....
no. worst they can do is tell you not to bring it back until up to the standards for the time you ran.I guess I could install and run the car, they have no way of predicting the time before hand , do they?
Just made your day...Back to bummer....
Im sure it will be quicker then 13.49.Just made your day...
Time rules for the Convertible Roll Bar requirement.
Any convertible running a 13.49 OR FASTER! up to an 11.00 ET are required to have a roll bar. Convertibles faster than 11.00 must have a roll cage surrounding the driver that is at minimum 1 inch wider than the driver's shoulders on each side.
the official wording "roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00(11.00 for convertibles) second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing."
in otherwords, bolt a damn bar in and roll with it
most likely. But you'll be fine from 11.00-13.49. unless track rules state otherwise. I'd build it to NHRA specs, which most tracks follow.Im sure it will be quicker then 13.49.
That is what i am going to do.Just made your day...

now you're onto something - just go - tell them it's a very warm 318 - then act like you can't believe it when they hand you the time slip...I guess I could install and run the car, they have no way of predicting the time before hand , do they?

I would as well. Not too likely.i'd be surprised if you break out of the 11.00 range
Bet it could get close with some suspension mods.i'd be surprised if you break out of the 11.00 range
