famous last words... as long as ALL you do is paint it'll go quickly.. but that NEVER happens
I already got it back running and all where the fire dept cut the battery cables and the wiring harness in the process. I'm just going to fix the skinned pieces and put it back together.

man i feel for you all running 15 inch tires..... looks like pickings are fairly thin. So I'll probably buy a second set for the polara when i get the rims from Tim. and pray they dont dry rot by the time i need them

The big reason I am changing to a different size.
selection in 14's is even worse...But I still wouldn't buy extras unless you plan to burn them off frequently. :steering: Lot of variables in what people will mount, run, repair, but seems the OK age keeps getting shorter. I see that 'over 6 years' is now considered out of date. Some say up to 10 with regular inspection. Another place I read that a 5 year old tire must be sold as used and anything over ten tire shops are not supposed to do anything but replace. So if you have an extra set sitting for 9 years... You get them installed and after a year you have an issue - a 'legit' tire shop can't help you even if the tire still looks brand new. :BangHead:

My 66 has 14's on it. Brand new hockey pucks, BFG. About the only brand that gives you a choice in sizes in a '14.

yeah but when you have your own mounting and balancing machine....... why do i need a shop

Then that's not an issue. Do you have a temperature/humidity controlled place to store them? If not, I would still say it's a bad investment. With so many old cars still on the road, I think someone will continue to make them available. Sure the price will go up, but not enough that I would stash tires away.

They are available from others as well. Depends a lot on what size you want. I got Uniroyal Tiger Paws for mine last year 215 70 14 -whitewall

Agree, if you are running a standard size, like you are. If you are trying to stuff as much rubber as will fit, you need a wide selection of sizes to chose from. BFG fits the bill in 14's.

yes/no. Temperature controlled, yes, humidity controlled, to a point. I just worry about dry rot. Granted, I'd probably use them as wagon tires if they did start going bad, You're probably right about it being a waste to try to store them.

So i never did tell you guys about the tubs on my dart..... I've decided im gonna replace them and go full tubs and then modify the trunk hinges to work. Thinking of doing away with the trunk torsion bars and going with a hydraulic ram closure/prop system.

Just wrap them in saran wrap. They will keep.
