Just got shocking news from my good friend in Atlanta, his house burned down. Everyone ok and they are insured. His wife has had him doing major remodeling continuously the past several years, he finished adding a bathroom to create a mother-in-law suite when his wife's mother had a stroke and they moved her in. I helped him now and then putting in new floors and I wood-grained the beams in the living and dining rooms to match the lighter floors. He did so much to that house. I have memories of parties there, helping decorate their Christmas tree...I can only imagine how sad they are.

Yeah, new rules driving accountants crazy. I should get a bunch back, I overwitheld in 2017.
I hate taxes especially being self employed. Worse yet my wife is a CPA and my accountant and tax preparer. Do yourself a favor and don't marry your accountant. They ask way too many questions. Lol

Damn!

He lost a couple cars he had in his basement, but some engines and another car in the "garage-mahal" part of the house are ok. I hate to think of the strain on him and his wife as she is very strong-willed and him being an Eagle Scout kind of guy who has always accomplished whatever plans she had for him.

That really sucks. Good they are OK.
Interesting timing with a conversation I had yesterday. I have done a good bit of handyman work in homes. I often think about this when doing electrical. I generally stay away from gas line work,
etc. Was remounting a kitchen sink for someone yesterday and he asked me about building a masonry firepit/pizza oven out back. I said maybe, but need a lot more detail of what he has in mind. Then he said something about changing the fireplace in the house and I said prob not... Definitely one to call a pro, I'm not gonna be responsible for the house burning down.
