Stop in for a cup of coffee

Yep from the news piece on the fire, it said it started in the chimney. He hadn't messed with it, I don't know if he'd had it checked recently or not.

Weird as I have had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. We are very close and it is was unusual that I hadn't heard from him for a couple days.

Hahaha, Yesterday I took a nice venison tenderloin out, cut it in half, rubbed it with some emirils. Plan was to cook em in an oven roaster bag , in the oven at 325, for tho hours.. Well I put em in at 730am, and tried to set the oven timer. Couldn't figure it out, so I set the microwave timer for 2 hrs. Wasn't paying attention to it , then the timer goes. I go to get it out....Well the F'n oven shut off at some time, I didn't know when. WTF??? So I look at it and it is cool , but cooked a little. So I reset the oven to 325 , put em back in,,,Right ?? I look at my watch, its 930am, I gotta git out to the shop, Right ?, I tell myself, I'll remember 11:30 , and go get em.....LOL Before I realized it , it was 1230...Awww Maaaan... THey are really cooked and dark looking. I put em in the fridge, till i could decide what to do with em, cause Im pissed. I just took them out, thinking I'll crumble em up and put em in some gravy or something. So I started into one o dem, And cut thin slices. Then I try a piece.. Pretty damn good. So I just slice the rest of one and eat it like a meat stick ya buy from the store, You know,, Football plate...meat , cheese , crackers... And here y'all was thinkin I was gonna toss em...No F'n way....

Happy New Year everyone if I survive it haha, we have a ton of reservations tonight, too many for our kitchen to handle I fear, praying for nice people in my section. After tonight, off till next Saturday. Be safe!

Just got shocking news from my good friend in Atlanta, his house burned down. Everyone ok and they are insured. His wife has had him doing major remodeling continuously the past several years, he finished adding a bathroom to create a mother-in-law suite when his wife's mother had a stroke and they moved her in. I helped him now and then putting in new floors and I wood-grained the beams in the living and dining rooms to match the lighter floors. He did so much to that house. I have memories of parties there, helping decorate their Christmas tree...I can only imagine how sad they are.

That sucks. Had a big smoker here about 5 years ago March. Was out of the house for half a year and wasnt done for a long time. Its much harder when you have something special. If you're OK with basic rebuild with drywall etc, its not so long - depending on how the structure and utilities are. I had some dubious electric lines due to an open cieling, and the furnace was a question mark, but no structural damage - plaster on 3x8 is pretty tough stuff. Yea 8s - not everything in the old days was better!

That really sucks. Good they are OK.
Interesting timing with a conversation I had yesterday. I have done a good bit of handyman work in homes. I often think about this when doing electrical. I generally stay away from gas line work,
etc. Was remounting a kitchen sink for someone yesterday and he asked me about building a masonry firepit/pizza oven out back. I said maybe, but need a lot more detail of what he has in mind. Then he said something about changing the fireplace in the house and I said prob not... Definitely one to call a pro, I'm not gonna be responsible for the house burning down.
Similar here. I stick to restoration work, and carry insurance (for carpentry, its closest my agent could find).

I mostly just do small stuff. Get requests from people I know... Considered hanging out a shingle when I was out of work. Was going to register and insure. Problem was as soon as you advertise, you are considered 'self employed' and lose all unemployment benefits. Yet if you take a part time job for someone else you can still collect. :wtf: Just could not afford to take the chance for somerhing I was only looking at as temp/secondary income.

I just did a little drywall work! Putting Christmas stuff on the attic and dropped a box! Was planning to re-rock and insulate the garage this winter anyway! just a headstart on the demo..
