Stop in for a cup of coffee

Cool! I'm re-working the original Plymouth image with my own twists to it. It's still in progress. :)

I was going to do it like a super bee in a circle in vinyl for my cuda..
Like I said I have the art work. I'm sure you can do far better.

how do you guys remove shackle bolts??

I am trying to turn the bolt around.

I got these leaf springs off a 4 door valiant parts car but it looks like someone had the bolts backwards.

The head of the bolt is to the outside so the extra bolt length and nut interfere with the frame rail.

Then I thought of swapping sides but if I do that, the rear shackles will be backwards and not line up with the bolt holes on the rear of the car.

I don't know how they were on the valiant for over 30 years without interfering with the frame rails but the passenger side wont even go on the duster because the nut and bolt sticking out is totally in the way.

I got the driver side bolted to the duster before I realized the shackle bolt is backwards so I might have to take the spring back off and turn the bolt around to pass the bolt audit.

I even tried a press but that bolt is like MEGA on there.

IDK, I'm just playing with it until someone tells me they want to see something different with it.

Here's where I am now...

not sure if I ever saw one like that with an engine on it's back.

if it did have an engine it would have to be a 383 for a 67 barracuda with that huge 67 383 only air cleaner on it .....

just throwing out ideas

You might have to unscrew it. Put in a bench vise and a long breaker bar. Try some heat.

I had to cut one of mine. Check out page 6 of my build thread, Posts 143 and 146 for all the fun.

That's actually a great idea! I'll have to play with it and see if I can make it work! Kinda like the Super Bee with the engine on his back...hmmmm.

I got the bolt to break loose somewhat with the press but it wont turn ....the impact wont get it to turn and I doubt my arm strength is much more than the impact.

I soaked the bushing in PB blaster ....which normally is a no no ....but I don't care in this case because eventually I need to replace these springs and bushing but for now the duster has no suspension and I need to move it by putting something together....plus I want to make sure I have all the parts and bolts accounted for

Tire kicker.... :poke:

Haha Karl afterwards I did feel like a tire kicker. I thought I might be ready to get in the game again but now I know I'm not. The old man seemed to enjoy the visit and I didn't take up too much of his time. One small thing I was able to clear up for him, that nothing happened to the pentastar on the drivers side fender...

those new rear shackles in your car look fantastic ....are they longer than stock ones?

I like a more shackle than original but not enough to start getting Joe dirt about it

That's cool and all Mopar! Sorry, just dropped in. Been across the state with my in-laws. Catchin' up to do.

you kinda had me doubting when you said it could have engine smoke or a leaky windshield and you sounded stressed about it.....

I was thinking Soooo.......windshield gaskets are not that hard to put in and I would swap an engine in a weekend.

I understand not everyone gets jumps into the deep end of cars like I do....but also remember .....if I can do it, surely you can too because I am the last person on the planet that anyone would expect to be doing this stuff LOL.

One day I just got the attitude that I am going to try anything and everything on a car and if I mess it up, oh well, if I don't try it myself, nobody is going to help me so Rani has to depend on Rani :D

whoooohooo ...

I got the bolt out !!!

I soaked it in PB blaster and went to eat and do something else for awhile ....dang that PB blaster is some GOOOD stuff.

I was thinking the bolt was floating inside the rubber. ....come to find out, there is a steel sleeve that the bolt goes through and it was rusty which is why couldn't turn the bolt.

I used the press and got it out as far as the press goes and then used a hammer and cnter punch to finish driving it out.

once the bolt was out, I had to sand it smooth because it had some rust and rough spots.

then I put some anti seize on the bolt and then chased out the threads and now it is pointing the opposite direction where I want it :glasses7:

hate to be nit picky but anyway to remove the snorkel from the air cleaner and round out the top of the air cleaner to appear like there is no lid.

She used to change it more often than her clothes.... :toothy1:

you don't have an avatar so does that mean you don't wear underwear either. :evil3::evil3:

(ummm...don't actually answer that ...it's just a joke but no one wants to know for real)

Try putting the nut on so it's even with the end of the bolt.

Then bang the hell out of it with a 2lb hand sledge hammer to get it to move axially. One trick is to put a larger socket underneath the bolt head on the bottom while you pound on it from the top, it will let the bolt move...

Try heating it real good if that doesn't work..

the first step is to break it loose where it will spin, then get it to move axially along the shaft. Use the nut on the end of the bolt, so you can bang on it without mushrooming the end and damaging the threads. Once you get it to move, then walk it through. I like to use a flat round chisel punch on an air hammer to drive it through the leaf spring out the other side...
