retaining wall building... yea - something that may not be too far in the future for me.. hum.. easier to fix an old one or build a new one... 6 of one -half a dozen of another..
I just noticed I have to do something similar by the shop the old barn wall around the pole building looks like it gave way in one spot over the winter. Looks like we both will have real fun!

Mike so far just one variety does not look to hot.

I am considering using railroad ties again. Much easier and it did last a long time. Other wise cinder blocks. Those will last forever. Decisions...

Mornin everyone, Blizzard warning here, work called off. So I will sit here and watch it snow. We have 40mph winds and calling for a foot or more.:coffee2:

That sounds like fun ...

Hey! The neighborhood Charger just rumbled by. He's put a Daytona Wing on it! I think it's a 69. Has those rear lights.

I need to go over and have a chat with him. I know where he lives.

Which is the easiest and best bang for the buck?
Have to price it out, BUT easier is the Ties. I have to get New ties, and they are not inexpensive. cinder blocks are cheap, but the work is tough, a couple of days. I have built lots of block retaining walls, strong but work to build. It is only 16 ft long and around 3 feet tall.

I have no idea what to do with the mess I have over the years the wall got back filled. Just re stack the rock and hope for the best? Have to shoot a pic of it hard to explain it.

so the ties just rot away? - of course 15 years from now I won't give a ...
they do rot away. solid pressure treated oak. the next time it fails I wont be here anymore. I will have sold my place. That is the problem. do it right with block, OR just get it done.....

I would do it right if you plan on selling it one less thing for buyers to pick at.

Looks like a retaining wall year. I have one that going to need some work this year, been in for 15 years. (RR ties)

I am hoping to do something that will make my pond problem less of an issue and give me a little "chill" spot in the back yard... basically a flat back wall with 45 degree angled walls coming forward - maybe 10-15' feet into the embankment..

Later Ray. to keep my wife happy, i am going with steel reinforced cinder block wall. Off to the Home Depot.
