I just noticed I have to do something similar by the shop the old barn wall around the pole building looks like it gave way in one spot over the winter. Looks like we both will have real fun!
Mike so far just one variety does not look to hot.
I am considering using railroad ties again. Much easier and it did last a long time. Other wise cinder blocks. Those will last forever. Decisions...retaining wall building... yea - something that may not be too far in the future for me.. hum.. easier to fix an old one or build a new one... 6 of one -half a dozen of another..

Have to price it out, BUT easier is the Ties. I have to get New ties, and they are not inexpensive. cinder blocks are cheap, but the work is tough, a couple of days. I have built lots of block retaining walls, strong but work to build. It is only 16 ft long and around 3 feet tall.Which is the easiest and best bang for the buck?

they do rot away. solid pressure treated oak. the next time it fails I wont be here anymore. I will have sold my place. That is the problem. do it right with block, OR just get it done.....so the ties just rot away? - of course 15 years from now I won't give a ...
