Stop in for a cup of coffee

Fair question. Just want a better handling car. Got everything to improve handling/stopping except the shocks..
Well, since you aren’t racing it in autocross I suggest that the Bilsteins are what you need and nothing fancier than that. The new suspension will do most of the handling work, you just need a shock with a reasonable amount of performance and good street manners.

Double adjustables are nice. Very nice. But they take some tuning to get set up. Either the Vikings or the Hotchiss ones will work great for you. Just depends on whether you want to fine tune your car or not.

@Mopar Tim

And you have driven on them in an A-body?
Yes. But they were already tuned in the Dart I got to play with. That's why I said above theyd need tuning to truly get the most out of them.

generally I'd say stay with a shock that's already been setup to work with a suspension package similar to yours. I'd say either the Hotchkiss or a Bilstien. I forget, who put together the Bilis to fit our cars? Firm feel? I remember when Tim Werner used them in Project Valiant he had to put together is own.

Agree. Heavier front torsion bars and unknown rear springs makes it risky to go with too much of a high tech specialized shock. I’d stay with either the Bilsteins or Hotchkis as a best first choice. This isn’t being built to be a track queen.

What Dart you got to play with?
A buddy's 71. Met him a few years back, he's one of the track setup guys for my local SCCA chapter. He let me take it for a spin to try it out at one of the events. I've got a video of me driving it somewhere on one of the numerous externals HDs. Hang on, gonna switch to my laptop and see if I can find it.

See why I have not purchased them yet?
Honestly, any of the three , Hotchiss , bilstein or even Vikings would do you just fine. Since you're not going to be chasing tenths of a second at a track every weekend, I'd honestly go with the Hotchiss ones as you can call them, tell them your combo and I bet they'll be able to pick the right set of shocks for you.

The rear springs are just a Stock replacement set.

So, you did a test drive in a purpose tuned track driven A body once and you think that applies to someone building a street performer? Did it have the rest of the same suspension that Tim has? Did you drive it daily on regular roads to really evaluate it?

Your “highly recommended” endorsement is highly suspect.

I'm curious who it is. Almost every Mopar autocrosser was on Mopax... its a small list.

Well the highly recommended comes not only from that experience but from all the reputable sources also recommending them.

As I said above however, it really depends on the exact use of the car. Which is why I think he should call Hotchiss and tell them his combo and let their experts set him up with the shocks that'll work best out of the box for him

Never thought much about shocks. Again, not something easily obtained around here.
Price in $usd= x2 with shipping is average.
I will be shooting for decent shocks, but the big sellers up here are monroes, and they are -well lets say mediocre at best.
Im not willing to spend as much on a shock as i did on a tire.
But most of my driving is a putt to town and back.

The 'vert will have a higher percentage of weight on the rear, and the springs will be carrying more weight in general. Its still probably going to be in the working range either of the non-adjustables mentioned. Hotchkis has been trying to say that they're setup doesn't require as stiff - high rate suspension as us 'old school' guys have been using. So there probably is some difference in the working range between what FF and Hotchkis are offering.
