Stop in for a cup of coffee

Just got a new one to try. @straightlinespeed

Had enough of a break in the rain to do some errands and try to get the carb fuel feed tied in.
This would seem simple enough. I wanted to install a feed line with a tee for my pressure gage. But nothing I had was working out well. I had already committed to using the 5-16 inverted flare connection. I *thought* I would be able to use a Mr. Gasket dual feed line even though I wasn't happy with the inside of appearance where the 3 tubes join. Turns out the 1/8 NPT port is right under the heater hoses. Fine. The pressure is probably fine anyway. No logical explanation for it to be too high, and worst case I can pick up 90* 1/8 npt street el locally if I have to. Besides, with all the rain we're getting I really didn't want the pressure gage on the cowl.

So you all by now have guessed where this was going. The primary bowl flare fitting wouldn't seal. A damn good reason to always check for fuel leaks at start up. Was only leaking when the engine was running. Ugh! Had the guy next door turn the ignition key so I could watch. Looked like a faucet running. Flare on the tube wasn't properly formed and now has a sharp ridge on it. Hard to see, but easy to feel. Tried a basic dual feed line and it sealed perfectly. Might also have been been Mr Gasket brand, not sure. Yea! How dry I am! Just maybe, I'll make Sunday's autocross at the stadiums.

Anyway. Mr Gasket 1556 fuel line is just junk.

Re-flare it. As in put the cone part in it and snug it up.
TJ. I had thought about that. I do have an Imperial flaring kit now. We'll see - its a hassle to test and didn't like the whole quality of the thing. The npt threads weren't done well - needed retapping and inside I could see rust and also the part of the inlet tube extends in too far.

This old Holley non-chromed I'd like to try reflaring. What do think? It does seal, but as you can see because of the nick it has to be really really tight.

Nylon gaskets - just say no.

Here's one of the nylon fuel bowl inlet gaskets that caused me much grief.
Summer 2016, going through Albany NY on a Friday around rush hour at a crawl following 4-5 hours of interstate speeds....

Having decided the smaller state highways would be a better alternative, but only slightly, it was a good time to refuel.
While there, opened the hood and found to my surprise several pools of fuel on the intake.
Nylon does flow when warmed up - and that flow point is lower than the underhood temperatures got at that location. After several tries at removing and reinstalling, it finally was cool enough to seal. The nylon seals on top of the float bowl for the inlet valve must not have got that hot - they never leaked.

This is probably not common, but on the other hand it could be very final. I would never use them again - especially with aluminum fittings like I was at that time.

I had this image idea percolating in the back of my mind all afternoon. Just finished it...

When Philly used to autocross at the Rivershark stadium lots - the stadium still under construction - I always thought there was great potential for photos from that side of the bridge. I'm trying to recall where the Battleship New Jersey was at that time. Probably about where it is now, but I can't recall. But the Philadelphia shoreline and background just seemed to have great potential. I may have one old digital photo someone took and sent me - not sure if it shows the backgrop well.

Nice! The car in the image I created belongs to my friend John in NYC. He bought it in 1972 and completely restored it. It’s a 389 tri-Power and is totally stock. It was featured in the High Performance Pontiac magazine back in the ‘80s. The car looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

I usually have mine in by now. Just the way Winter dragged on this year I didn't get it done.

Its the taper that seals, that nick probably isnt an issue.

One year my sister planted in 1/2 of my garden. 1st week of may. I waited until 3rd week. Everything i planted grew bigger and produced more.

Usually last week of April/1st week of May is our prime time for planting, not this year. Heck, the row crops aren't even in the ground yet, normally we get that all in by may 1st. Be lucky to do it by June 1
