Stop in for a cup of coffee

guess you didn’t back read.

Recap: went to put the heads and new cam in my 440 rebuilt long block. Heard a weird metallic sound when I rotated the engine over on the engine stand to put the oil pan pan. A large chunk of the number 1 cylinder wall broke off and is laying in the water jacket on the front corner of the engine. It’s too large to get out of the port, so after trying to cut it, break it, file it. It’s gonna need a die grinder to cut it to get it out. I cant seem to get a clear picture of it either down in the jacket.
Get another block.

Magnet works great, but the chunk is larger than the port size just enough to keep in in there. I don’t have a cut off wheel small enough to reach it either.
You know……

If you’re going to have to start over on the block anyway……

Are you?

Get another block.
Just pissed too. My boy, my grandfather and I assembled this together 3 months before my grandfather passed. Been kept in climate controlled storage , dry, in an engine oil bag in a cradle ever since. Was gonna put this in the dart this weekend so when my shop is done, I was gonna drive the dart to its new home :BangHead: :BangHead:

:BangHead::BangHead: is right. This just doesn’t make sense.

I don’t see anyway around having to get a new block. This piece is about 1/8 inch thick, so even if I sleeve cylinder number 1, it’s going to have a serious weak spot and invite future problems. With the 4500 in the top end, I’d rather just switch blocks

But bigger question: if the 70 block checks out…. Since the heads will support 600 plus hp, do I go ahead and stuff a stroker kit in it or just use the rotating assembly from this one. It’s a factory forged crank with LY rods and forged pistons, king bearings

What's your plan for the car when finished.

Grandkids stopped over today and had a great time.

hmmmm maybe this is a sign to sell the dart and buy a cool old station wagon

I took Wyatt to a local place tonight that is considered a listening room for live music. It’s called Godfrey Daniels. They have been open since 1976. Tonight they had artists playing Americana/bluegrass. They were all individual artists but they collaborated together. It was my first time ever going there. It really was as great show.

I received my Pioneer vintage tribute turntable in the mail yesterday evening, will be putting it together today, just happens to be my fathers birthday as well so fitting : ) Hawthorne Stereo still hasn't completed repairs on the Pioneer receiver I demo'd a couple of weeks back, had to send it off site but no hurry here, that will complete the system and I'll run it all through his Magnepans.
