I thought this thread was about trying to stop me!

If your not fixing the rust problems right now the best thing you can do is sand out as much as you can and shoot some cheap paint on the problem areas to seal it up for now.
As for the small holes same thing sand them and maybe a little silicone to seal them up until you can fix it the right way.
It may sound dumb but it will help preserve it for a while.

I'm hearing more guys using muriatic acid instead of sandblasting because it is not as messy. The acid will eat the rust in seconds or less! I have not tried usin acid for rust removal yet. Won't it also eat the metal? I also know it will eat skin and burn out your nose hairs if you breath it! I want to try this on my firewall. Anyone out there tried this method yet :?:

I haven't tried muriatic acid, but we do use sulfuric and hydroflouric acid in auto detailing. Works great on chrome rims that haven't been taken cared of. If you have chrome rims that have a layer of what looks like dust but doesn't wash off, its actually rust. You can use wire wheel cleaner to get it off, just spray it on and hose it off. Most chrome and wire wheel cleaners that you see in the store are diluted versions of the sulfuric/hydroflouric acid mix that the commercial detailers use. When working with acid, keep a bucket of soapy water close by. The phosphates in the soap will neutralize the acid, so if you spill some acid or just need to clean up the part that you have used acid on, just dump some soap water on it. Be careful around the glass, especially the windshield and mirrors, acid will burn it on contact. Even if the overspray in the air gets on the mirrors it will burn. Windshields will get a white haze on it, and the side mirrors will turn black (darken) where the acid lands on it.
