As many of you know, I have had a terrible time with my engine this summer. I wiped out 2 cams in the process.
I finally had a chance to take the top off my engine today as I had a dreaded clack, clack at idle after my latest breakin. The newest cam showed no signs of abnormal wear. I was able to track the clacking down to a collapsed lifter. I replaced the guts in the lifter and installed it back in the engine. I will get a chance to restart the engine later this week.

I would like to thank BJR Racing, moper and Rumblefish360 for their help during this ordeal. They have all been very helpfull.

Now I can move on to another part of the car and there isn't that much left to do before it goes to the paint shop.

Good to hear Jack!
What do you have to do to it yet before it's ready for paint?

I have to adjust the shifter linkage, reposition the exhaust a little and a little work on one quarter. About a full days work. I am hoping to get a guy just down the road from me to do the paint. I have seen his work and it is top notch.

Congrats Jack, and hang in there. Everything will eventually come together the correct way, although sometimes it seems that for each step we take forward, we take at least two backwards.

succses!! That's grate to here, time to take another step forword.
just like Oldvart said,But seem's like I have to take 5 step's back, but I do get ahead of my self some time's. so keep on keepin on. GOOD job Jack.

Good to hear Jack, wish I was close but as stated, every chance I get to do a bit of wrenching it seems the further behind I get. What color are you painting the lod girl?

It's going to be as bright a red as I can find with the stock 72 Demon stripe package in black. This is the one that has the curved stripes on the hood that border the dual snorkle scoop.

Jack

Ehhhhhh, no poblem. Your welcome. Just tryin to help.

One of the brightest red's available right now would be the Viper Red. I shot a buddy's lawn tractor with it to see if I liked it for my car - man, that is about the most pure red I've ever sprayed! It's definitley an eyeball scorcher, and my buddy has the only Viper Red tractor in at least ?? how many counties. :)

Hey Jack, put on your shades and have a look at these pics. :) Came in Yerrer and went out RED baby!! :toothy7:

Yup. That was the 2000 Viper Red I used on that one. It's a pure polyurethane (Endura) so it's not a base / clear system like you'd probably use on your car. I sprayed three coats on that little darlin'.

like that red!!. The mower look,s like a nice rider, well bilt. Somthing tell's me that it is not a mtd product. motor, pinstripe's and a stereo,Then let the baby eat :)

So is that a single stage paint Sid? I know nothing about paint. What does it cost? Is it easy to work with? questions, questions, questions??????

Jack

Jack, Endura is a Canadian manufacturer of Polyurethane paints, used mainly on airplanes, drilling rigs, bridges, marine applications, and autos. It is a very tough finish, especially for things like suspension parts where there's always abrasives hitting. It is a single stage paint. I've done a few complete car/truck finishes with it, although it's not my first choice for overall body repaints. It is slower drying that most base / clear paints, so the potential for dust and debris is greater because of the slower dry time. Since I did the last paint job with it, they have come out with an automotive clear that can be used over the base, but I haven't personally tried it yet. I do use a lot of their epoxy and hi-build primers, since they are competitively priced and I find them to be very tough products.
The fact that it's a polyurethane means that it's very high in isocyanates, so you have to be very careful to have excellent breathing protection and good air movement through your boot when spraying. Their epoxy primer is iso free, so just normal precautions as with any other chemical usage. If you want to do suspension parts, underside of your car, battery tray, etc., this product is great, especially if you can spray outdoors like I did with the tractor. Also, that Viper Red I believe was priced about $200.00 CDN per gallon compared to about $600.00 for the PPG or Dupont base / clear. When I want to test a color, I usually get a pint of Endura color and a pint of activator, which gives me a sprayable quart, and paint something for somebody, like my buddies tractor. :) Now I know what it will look like on the car and it hasn't cost me an arm and a leg to find out I really don't like a certain color after all.
If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me and I'll help you out as much as I can.

Thanks Sid,

I won't be spraying the car myself. Come to think of it I won't even be doing the finish body work. LOL
The guy I want to paint the car will have his own preferences but I always like to know all of my options.
I have seen his work and it is very good.

Jack

Jack, just about every painter I've ever met has his own preference in paint products. There are so many different brand names, and so many lines within each brand, that you need to learn one or two particular lines, along with all the reducers, hardeners, etc, of those lines, then stick with them. The more paint you spray in a particular line, the more proefficient and confident you become. Let your man use his own favorite product and he'll put out a much better job than if he's trying to contend with an unfamiliar product.

That is definately red, From your description Jack it should look nice when you are done. You'll have to let me know when it's done and I'll take a jaunt down to see it, OR will it in Miramichi any? I am there every chance I get!

From where do you buy the Endura paints ?

I won't be hard to find when it is done. I will be the guy with a grin from ear to ear. Or you might be able to find me by following my wife. She will be the woman that looks like she just had the crap scared out of her. LOL

383dart: That particular pint I bought at CAPS (Central Alberta Paint Supply) in Red Deer. They carry all of the Endura product line and they are very knowledgable about the product. The main plant is in Edmonton just South of Yellowhead Trail on, I believe, 149 Street? I'll get their web site address for you.

Jack: You're right, with a colour like that, and mama looking like this  there shouldn't be any problem finding you...... :burnout:

Good one. :sign5:
