Sure grip

Hi guys,

I bought a 66 coronet 8 3/4 axle 741 open case for my 75 Duster. I also bought a 489 sure grip and green bearings. Now I'm broke, Ha ha! My question is, do I have to remove the thrust plug or can I leave it in? If I have to remove it can you point me in the right direction as to the removal of said plug?

You should not have to remove it. You can temporarily put the center section in and temporarily install the axels (no gaskets or seals needed for this) be sure you have the backing plates on as well. with one side snugged up the other side should sit flush, if it does not sit flush the you might have a thrust button issue.

depends on the axles. i've never had to remove it with moser or doctor diff axles.

With stock axles, and a cone-type SG, I think, yes you will have to remove the Thrust block.

If your open diff has the thrust block and you're using the same axles, then just leave it there.
