The 40 440

Keep it coming. It’s nice to see how you put this truck together.

So I saw this pop up in a few pics so I figure I should have a chat with you guys about it. It is a bolt on rack, and pinion from unisteer. Made for the v8 crossmember mopars. So...I don't know if there is another option for a rack, pinion kit. If there is buy that one. I would have been further ahead pulling a rack out of the junkyard since I had to remake all the brackets, and buy different u joints for the dd bar,and column anyway. The rack pointed to the front away from the column, and they wanted the steering shaft to go all the way around and over the manifolds. F'n retarded ,and it hit my pan so even if the steering shaft routing would have worked the rack itself wouldn't fit under the motor. So here's what I did with it. No not that lol.

Mounted their bracket took some measurements with the rack in place, and with it out. Then I turned it into something usable with a few cuts ,and welding. If anyone at unisteer is out there the bracket should look like the one below.

So once I painted the remade bracket,I got it all installed to look like this. With only two joints to the column, and a small chunk of dd rod.

Ya another two hour bolt on job that took all day thanks to the engineers at unisteer. By the way they still claim that the kit works, and are still selling it as a bolt on after all the bad reviews and complaints. So warning to all. Read the reviews on parts before you buy them. That's the end of my rant next time we will mount the gas tank, and do some mods to the front fenders. Thanks for checking it out.

Not much to the tank. Ordered a tank from summitwith my dimensions welded in a flange, and bolted it in. Yes there is a reason other than horsepower, and the racing look that we decided to use such a pricy tank. You will know why very soon.

So what you've all been waiting for. Well maybe one of the things.
2018-08-12 01.15.32.jpg

Using a set of light bezels, and buckets I had laying around. I traced the hole needed to fit them on the fender. After I found center of course.
2018-08-12 01.35.33.jpg

Cut out the hole ,and trimmed till the buckets fit in. Making sure they were right side up.
2018-08-12 03.09.20.jpg

Mounted the lights with long screws so I could face them at the angle I wanted.,and set them straight. Which placed them an inch or two away from the fender in some places.

So I taped off the parts of the bucket that I wanted protected, and poured two part hard foam around them.

Then shaped the foam leaving perfectly molded headlights. I soaked the foam in fiberglass resin. Sanded them and now they are ready for body work.
Next time we will assemble the box,and show you a never before seen cool hand customs original bed floor.

So we kinda cheated here. I ordered a Ford box without any mounting,or fender holes from midwest Ford. Easy assembly.

2018-08-04 18.26.58.jpg

Drilled some holes, and put nutserts in to bolt it down. If you noticed I didn't install any of the cross braces for the bed. You will see why soon.

That was some pics with the fenders mocked up,as well as a few of the side panels we made to fill in between box,and running boards.

We also made some fender extensions, and a rear filler pan that will hold the plate as well as the lights.

So instead of using cross bars that would normally be the mounting for the bed wood and slats we built this. Resembling a jail door, because we don't want to see any cross bars when the bed wood I designed is finished and installed.

So skip ahead a few weeks just for a moment to show what the hell is going on,and what I am talking about and wallah!

I think it was 76 nutserts.

There ya go. A custom made clear bed floor which explains all the fancy stuff under the bed. The plexi I had made to be the same size as any of the wood kits. So if you would like one I can have them made for you,and they wi fit in place of your wood.

The paint is a summit racing hotrod flat white. With satin black for trim, interior, and firewall. The seat is a custom made racing style bench seat. Matched to the engine, and accent color ordered from PRP seats.

The hood ornament is from a 47 dodge d-24 that i modified to meet up with the trim. It now fills the gap between the hood hinge, and grill trim
