OK, time for an update, headers are done and ceramic coated. Please ignore my crappy welding.

Finished the seal and rear panels and the main floor panels. Firewall is next.
Seal was a *****, took it in and out 4 or 5 times to get the rubber seal trimmed so I was able to push the tunnel thru and still have a good seal, lot of baby powder:)

More next weekend........

Had to spit the pipe to fit over the trans back plate and add weld in some fillers.

Instead of making fillers and welding them in the opening, my buddy, who owns Real Deal Steel suggested we use their industrial spot welder and make it look old school/ unique. I built some fillers and spot weld ed them in.

Ok, finally back to post some updates, car runs and drives and am in the final stages after a year, geez. Wiring is done and floorpans and dash are in.

and...wires and dash. Wanted to not have anything showing for electronics and simple old school SW black face gauges. With that goat rope of wires, everything works correctly!!! I wrote down what each wire/color is but don't want to need that info...ever. :)

Now........... the clutch and trans debacle. Holy crap, what a pain in the *** to make everything play nice. Bought a 10" 3 disk Crower pro sportsman clutch from a pro mod and had Crower reface the titanium pressure plate and floaters.

Had to have a 6 bolt flywheel made as the one with the clutch is a 8 bolt Hemi and nobody had one available for 3-6 months.

Found out that you cannot reuse the flywheel insert face pads, or the stand bolts or the nuts so had to order all that new.
When installing the flywheel I had made, found that the hole that fits over the crank flange was too small. They copied the Hemi flywheel and the hole in the middles was smaller. Off to the machine shop to be cut.

Install the pilot bearing and mocked up the transmission and the imput from the lenco was short.......@$%#%^$^&!

No worries, I'll just order one from Lenco.................six weeks until they make any more. %^*%&^%$#%*&%*&^!!!

Thankfully, I know some people:). Larry and Jordan Ensslin from Ensslin racing. Took all the parts and the clutch to them and Jordan refaced all the plates and set up the clutch and taught me how to do it. Larry then opened his tool box and had THREE of the hereforeto unobtainable input shafts. Couple hundred bucks later I was on my way home ready to go. They are great people.

New throw out bearing and bolt that baby up............and the bearing stand was too long holding the clutch disengaged when the bell housing was tightened up. Back to the machine shop.

Once that was done, bolted everything up, set the clutch pressure and stops and went for a ride!

Clutch and trans worked flawlessly! Yes, pulling levers while spining the tires is f****** great! Driving a car with no doors, floors, windsheild or front sheet metal is also fun, like driving the Flintstone mobile.

Windsheild is now in and front fiberglass mocked up. I will work on that and should be ready for paint in a week or so.

Next was the belly pan and janky drop down to clear the clutch linkage.

Got the wheelie bars welded up and had to make a upper mount for them. Used the ladder bar bracket and made an adjustable upper mount so I can go up or down 3/4" if needed.

Hood scoop and bodywork, cut the scoop down 2.5" in the back so it is more level.

Front end and hood have been primed and blocked are ready for paint, should have it painted this week. After that, just minor fitment on the front end and headlight/park lamp wiring is all that is left. Off the front end shop for alignment Monday and might even make it to the track next week :)

Buster is very close to a trip to the track, waiting on a new Ram 8" dual; disc clutch assy to replace the crower 3 disc. The crower assy weighs 70 pounds and overkill vs and the Ram dual @ 33 pounds. Should have just spent the 4K up front but oh well.

Bought a new Tempte EZ load trailer and love it.

Race cars are a never ending fun fest!

The Crower clutch that I got a good deal on (derp) isn't going to work, too much clutch and too heavy. Motor acted like the crank was spinning in mud with 70 pounds hanging on it. Had Mike at Ram build me a 8" dual disk and swapped that out. after setting it up, seems to work great.

And then............................

A big chunk of the epoxy in the intake decided to come loose and wedge itself in a intake valve. Thankfully, it was just idling in the shop to warm up.

20230527_213518.jpg

Pull the heads and have one valve replaced. remove all the epoxy from the intake.
And then.........................

Putting the rocker shafts back on, I looked in my handy dandy Mopar book for the torque specs and tightened them to 35 pounds. After running the valves, took it for a quick ride and just when I returned it became a 6cyl. F###. What now?

Lol, my dumb *** neglected the fact that these were ALUMINUM heads and the torque for them is 25 pounds! one of the bolts pulled out the threads and broke the shaft.

New rocker shaft ($$$) and a Time-sert fixed it. Stupid sometimes hurts.

Blasted it a couple times up on the toll road and she's good now. Drove it to a local show and everything worked fine.

Now that it's cooled off, track testing this month. Might take it to the Garlit's Museum show in November. :)

Side note, the Dick LaHaie Top Fuel car is ready for display at the Mopars with Big Daddy and then put in the museum. Buster the Dust Turd will be there also and then to the track. :)
