Anyone seen it? I was expecting a lot worse. The original is a tough act to follow.

Harrelson and Quaid are good, but I really missed Glenn Ford. Seemed like something was missing without his worried calmness. I can easily do without Heston, although I liked him in Midway. Different, adds a lot of additional history, subplots, special effects. To anyone that likes a good war movie, it's worth a watch.

As in Woody Harrelson? I think not

original movie is sooo good, and i'm sick of remakes, especially overly CGI'd crap. doubt i'll ever give it a chance

One of the few movies I liked the remake was "True Grit." I liked the "new" one almost as much as the old. But I agree, "new" is seldom better

Not really a remake. They start at Pearl and add a bit more detail everywhere. And add some nice touches like Doolittle's Raid, Coral Sea and u-boat stuff. And you got Woody as Nimitz.

I haven't seen this one yet.
I'm a bit of a war buff, been that way since I was a kid.
The movie 'Patton' pissed me off when I got to see it.. using 50's era US tanks with German markings.. really! My brothers got pissed at me for calling it out, lol. Saw it in 1975 or so.
I haven't watched the 'Pearl Harbor' movie .. seems like a love story movie from what I've seen.
One recent one I did like was 'Fury'. They got the last actual working German Tiger Tank in it, which was quite the feat to do. That said, a Panther would have been more realistic on that front at the time.
I'd like to see how realistic it is with equipment.. curious to see how they represent the F4F's, TBD's, SBD's, and the A6M's and B5N's.

Seen Pearl Harbor, yea not a 'true' war movie, but I enjoyed it anyway. I really liked Fury too. Didn't know about the last Tiger, nice factoid. I think they got the hardware right, why not? a lot of it is digital anyway. All the AA cannon looks right too me. They keep it a real war movie too, never straying too far or too long from the battle zone. Still, I wouldn't call it great, like the original Midway or Battleground. I love this scene...

I can't find the documentary clip I saw about the tiger, but they laid concrete paths for it to drive on for the movie. Found this though:

Digital recreation is fine with me as long as it's accurate.

I liked it too.....my only ONE complaint is that they made the girl's role way too strong. But you know, with women's lib and all .......whatchya gonna do?

You seen where Tommy Lee Jones is going to take the lead in the remake of The Cowboys? I think that will be interesting.

I saw the new Midway movie when it was released in 2019.
Saw it at one of the IMAX venues.
I have an interest in WWII history and I found the movie to be a good portrayal of historical information. With no disrespect intended to previous movies versions of the event, anytime you can get acts of patriotism and courage in front of some members of the today’s American population, it is a good thing.
Unfortunately the folks that need to see it, probably won’t.

Loved Fury. Those tankers probably fared worse than the 8th Air Force in Percentage casualties! Didn't understand why the last stand of the Sherman didn't involve those German Panzerfaust's (big fat RPG's) pounding that tank from 30M from 4 different angles but that's Hollywood.

Good terse article.
I love the German hardware, especially the 88 and ME-109. They pretty much invented the shaped charge and assault rifle. The Masters of War at the time...a country roughly the size of Pennsylvania nearly took the planet.

Sorry East Germany was about the size of PA, but you get the point.

Last time I saw Tommy Lee was in Ad Astra. I thought he looked like death warmed over and likely wasn't going to be around much longer.

Watched it with the family and everyone liked it, including my 13yr old son. He loved the planes because he's been playing War Thunder video game. It was pretty historically accurate too. Can never get enough info into a two hour movie to tell a story like that, but I think it was a good job.

To much CGI for my taste. I like the actors to look like themselves, not a partial cartoon. The story was good though.

Jack
Agreed.
The movie started with the invasion of China in 1937. I thought that was swell.

I just saw a trailer for a future classic WWII film. Greyhound. Destroyer in the North Atlantic escorting convoy. Tom Hanks is the skipper.

The German WWII stuff all had a 'cool' factor to me. The tanks they had 'style' for lack of a better term.. the Panther was a beautiful tank to me. Almost want to get back into military modeling again now, lol.
Technologically, the Germans were so advanced.. the Me262 (which also had that 'cool' factor), the rocketry programs. Luckily it was all mismanaged so badly.
I watched this the other night, if anyone's interested in this stuff. Very cool documentary. Watch it on a big screen with good sound!

If Tom Hanks is in it, probably going to be pretty good. I think he's a stickler for accuracy. I loved him in 'Saving Private Ryan'.. still one of my fav movies. Although it's not a true story per se, it seems to be pretty historically accurate as far as military details go.

Unfortunately, I already know that the ship will sink. Everything Tom Hanks travels in in a movie sinks or crashes.

Don't be dissin' Mr. Hanks. He saved private Ryan, brought those guys back from space alive on Apollo 13, and got those folks on that plane to the ferries all unscathed. :)

In all seriousness though, Tom Hanks finds these stories of true heroes, and reminds people of it. Apollo 13 was an awesome movie that needed to be made.. Jim Lovell, Swigert, Haise, and the guys who worked tirelessly to bring them home are straight up heroes. Same with Sullenberger. I would have never thought of these guys had these movies not been made.

Yeah, he's a real hero.....great Veterans groups proponent. Evidently, he really loved America under the last president.

I think he loves veterans, and the sacrifices they have made. He's the Chairman for republican senator Elizabeth Dole's Hidden Heroes foundation.
Just a decent human being, who uses his fame for good. We don't deserve Mr. Hanks.
