The power of a 273

-

its more like 240 at .050 for a stocker cam , also, might be dwell nose style. also, there is a guy back in midwest, that runs super stock with a 66 valient, 273 also, it runs 10.05 @ 131 mph. just food for thought
Matt Steen in his SS Valiant, I've spoken to him a few times, mostly machine shop talk but I think he said he was running the 318 heads also.

Big difference between super stock and stock eliminator classes.

For all the 273 guys out there, ever heard of the 1966 "D" Dart? Good friend had one here in Phoenix,AZ., he bought it new. I got to drive it and it and that little (?) Dart turned my thinking about Mopar small blocks. I've tried to find that car for years now, no luck. Look it up and you'll find a truly remarkable car for it's time, even now! Bee Line drag ways, 1966, headers open and 8 inch wide slicks, consent low 13s. And the sound that 273 made was just heavenly at 7,500 RPM!

@ddartdude is the local expert. He owns 2 I believe.

My Son & I also run stock Eliminator.
He runs a '77 Volare 360 in H/SA.
I run a '78 Aspen 360 K/SA.

What do you shift the 273 at?
We have a couple of 273 cars in div 4 from time to time.

I have stock bore 273 with a solid Isky cam 455 260 , rpm 2000-6400 , 10.5 dome dome pistons, ld4b , 920 heads with oem valves that I spent last winter cleaning up some just enough to get the rough castings removed, and gasket matched. hooker fender well headers. I have the rev limiter set at 5900 haven't hit it yet . don't know if I should take it up higher in rpms for full potential. 2000-6400rpm. spec. pulls strong and hard up to 5800. 4speed 3:55 gear.

This is Ramon M. who was able to purchase the 34th vehicle in the 50 car VIN sequence. It was shipped to Dodge City in Phoenix, AZ on May 13, 1966. Ramon told the dealership that he was interested in the car and was waiting for it to come in. When it did arrive, another potential buyer conned a salesman into letting him take it for a test drive - which was not allowed. The guy took it out and blew up the engine. The salesman contacted Raymon to see if he would be interested in the car. He said yes, the dealership ordered and installed a new D/Dart engine and Ramon got his true D/Dart.
