a68post,
I loved the pix in post #224, 'cuz I have a question. What product did you use for the "undercoating" on the inside of the fender and on the outside of the aprons? The texture looks like what I want to duplicate on mine. Is the product paintable as well (so i can use it in the trunk too)? Thanks and nice work. L8r

gerahead, the black is a 3-M rubberized undercoating in a rattle can. you may be able to top coat it but it is so soft that if you hit the finish with anything it would take the top coat off. if you go back to the earlier posts you will see the shiny black of POR-15. this would be the type of a coating i would suggest. you can prime right over it and it will stick. i'm not trying to sell the stuff. and there are a few other products out there that work as well, i just prefer POR-15.

a68,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have used a bunch of the POR-15 on my project and on my other cars as well. I certianly appreciate the heads-up on trying to overcoat the rattle can undercoating. I was looking for something I could use to touch up or completely re-do the inside area of the quarter panels in the trunk, so I need to be able to paint over it. The texture of what you used looked close. I know, I am probably being waayyy to anal about this, but what the hey! Thanks. L8r

if you are going to use it as a sound deadner it will prbably be ok if you let it dry for a few days or a week. i just wouldnt beat on it too much! it will probably be ok. good luck!

just cause it is easier i will put todays progress in two posts. #1 finish up on the trunk opening and tail light openings.

thanks for sharing your work with us .

I am assuming that the gray stuff is an epoxy primer. Wuttcha squirtin' under it (the beige stuff)? L8r

Jim

hey Jim! the ugly stuff is dupont 615 etch primer. it chemically bonds to the sheetmetal and gives the 2-K primer something to get ahold of. I use it on ALL bare metal.
